Hi,
I'm 18 years old, and I've recently been asking myself some questions about the quantity of alcohol my mother drinks. I'm not really sure of the definition of alcoholism, but I do feel like she has some sort of dependance to alcohol. She drinks after work and on weekends, typically 3 to 4 beers an evening (don't know about the weekends). She's pretty depressed these days so that might be why. I have tried to talk to her about it but she just got angry. She has also already gone out just to buy alcohol quite a few times (even at night). I've always had a problem with her drinking, because seeing her drunk at parties as a child traumatised me, I'm now phobic of drunk people, so I guess that's why she got angry (I'd ask her not to drink too much (and insist) every single time she drunk alcohol). Anyway, I don't know what to do. She might end up really becoming an alcoholic.. I saw somewhere that some experts of an international organisation said that drinking over 2 classes of alcohol a day (for a female) is considered as excessive drinking. What do you think? Thanks in advance for your guidance, have a nice day/evening. |

It's hard to say whether she is an alcoholic...if she is unable to control how much she drinks there may be a problem, IMO.
You are in a stressful situation but your mother is the only one that can change her drinking habits. Please remember to take care of YOU. The two drinks per day as being excessive is for overall health - not an indicator of alcoholism. Keep us posted on how you are doing. |
