I've been sober 3 months and don't feel any better. I'm depressed, emotional, moody, I can't sleep, I'm losing weight and I just don't even want to get out of bed anymore. When does it get better? Sober 3 months and still depressed

Hello. Welcome to the addiction forum. Sorry you're struggling. To be honest I was in really bad shape for about the first 18 months. It gets so much better and more rewarding than you can imagine but the first two years for me was really hard. Hang in there. Message me if you need to

Hi and welcome.

First off congratulations on 3 months. That's awesome and hard, so well done on getting through it. For me, it usually starts getting better at about 6 months.

However, you might want to consider seeing a Dr. A lot of what you're describing sounds like depression, and you may be depressed. A lot of people with mood disorders, self-medicate with alcohol or drugs and then when they get sober, the mood disorder gets worse initially. Worth getting checked at any rate.

Hang in there, and I'm here if you want to talk.

Thanks so much for your replies, it means a lot that you both took the time to write them. I've had dysthymia from a young age so the depression is definitely there. You're right splitimage, my drinking problem was due to self-medicating. I went to the dr today and have increased my antidepressant dose for awhile. I'm determined to stay sober every day. Thanks again :-)
