Please Take care of yourself. Sometimes family can try to influence us to do what makes them feel good and not what is best for us.

These boards are a pretty good place to get some support for addictions, too. Many people use online sources to get some help for their substance abuse issues. I'm glad you know there's a problem. That's the first step. Good luck!

Online support can be great. That's primarily what I use. But if you feel like you need IRL support, I hope you're able to get to some meetings. Don't let your family stop you.

Online AA and NA are most often used by people in addition to IRL meetings and in those IRL meetings the message is pretty clearly that you need to go to meetings as often as possible. I am not saying they are right or wrong, just letting you know why I think you hear that so much. I don't go to addiction specific meetings (I go to Recovery International). About the only place I report progress (10 days until 4 months!) is here.
