How about Internet forums ? Does anyone see that as an addiction ? Yes , seems a bit odd to post that question on an actual Internet forum . Not saying it's quite like shooting up in an alley or anything like that , but being my age (52) and growing up without the internet , sometime you wonder how dependant we could become on it . Exchanging actual face to face socialising for online socialising .

Ha already have your MO . Very kind person who always begins replies by saying you have no skills in that area of concern , then promptly giving great advice .
Your addiction is duly noted and encouraged .

I'd say I'm addicted. I love learning new things and talking to people. I value my online friends as much as my real life friends. That being said I had no problem being unplugged and camping for a month last summer.

I do believe that I am addicted to the internet. I don't spend a lot of time on social media. I like to surf the net, reading articles on subjects that I am interested in. I just realized this today. I am wondering if a 12 step program would help. Prior to having a computer I spent a lot of time reading self-help books. I am medically retired and have lots of time on my hands.

Totally addicted. If it's just going on forums or chatting with people.

I recently found Reddit, and I just went nuts with it.

Sleep has never been the same since I have been on the internet.

I've had moments where I've considered it addiction and moments where I've considered it "proactive" and um, I've already forgotten the other word I wanted to say. Um, I think this post has caught me in a bit of both. I've found the specific thread for my specific challenge (I gave up promiscuous sex, drugs/alcohol, and gambling/shopping years ago, but obviously the addictive personality never goes away and we just find other things to sub), so here I am!

Hope we can help keep each other accountable. Lately I've been visiting this and other related forums, but also use FB, Twitter, and a plethora of music forums. I've cut back significantly on the excesses, but now I'm compulsively checking these sites every day. I don't see it as a huge problem yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Take care folks!

-Kitty

hey kitty,
yes I am on the computer too much.
The compulsion leads us to keep looking. I am on line many hours a day. and I work 3/4 time. My house gets neglected as does my paper work and my hubby too.
Being on line and posting on forums is my hobby.
I am really not a tv watcher except for jerry seinfeld reruns.
I really need to get a hobby....
I would be on the computer less.

Thanks for your great input so far . Is very interesting to read your thoughts . I think for most people it's certainly not something destructive . It's a powerful medium and gives you an amazing opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life and places . I'm on a bit of mission of self improvement for the moment and for 2018 . The internet certainly is not up high on my list , but it's on the list of things to go without for at least a while .I stopped social media a few years back which I think for me was something positive . Anyway , once I tick my boxes down to the net I'm going to switch off and I have 400 books I'm planning on reading ...that should keep me going for a few years I reckon , then I'll see if I want to hit the power button again or not ....in the meantime , I'll continue to enjoy great interaction with some very interesting people .
