I have been trying to lose weight for a year.

I have what I call mini-binges. I get so hungry. I ruin my diet. Like I will go through a bag of chips and a container of hummus.

It is frustrating. If you are dieting how do you handle your hunger?

Is there a way you can get rid of the unhealthy foods in your house? Perhaps that way you'll be less tempted. I'm sorry you have to deal with this

Yes, that's what I do. When I get really hungry I will just go out to the store. I don't keep junk in the house at all. Someone sent me Christmas cookies and I ate them in two days. So you are right. I can't keep unhealthy foods in the house. If there are cookies around I just turn into a cookie monster.

any neighbors with kids you could give the cookies to?
I eat a piece of cheese or a handful of almonds if I am hungry before a meal.
I only eat 2 meals a day.
Spend a lot of time in my car so have almonds in there if I get peckish.
good luck, I have been dieting too. Plus I drink a lot of water. I believe the sensors for hunger and thirst are the same. So when you feel you are hungry try drinking 2 glasses of water. Then I chew gum a lot to keep my mouth busy.
hope this helps.

Well I talked to a dietician and it seems my vegetarian diet is the culprit. A diet with more carbs leads to hunger. I want to stay vegetarian. So we worked out that I should eat more nonfat dairy because the protein helps lessen hunger.

I messaged my primary care doctor and asked for a short-term appetite suppressant. She refused.

This is absurd. I have been prescribed appetite suppressants in the past and they were very effective and I never got dependent.

I was kind of upset but I got over it.

I got angry enough that I just vow not to mini-binge.

Sent my doctor a message and joked that I would have to start smoking. It was just a joke. But I remember that when I was young that's how my friends and I curbed our appetites. We got thin by smoking cigarettes like demons.

Now it is just all around harder. I will have to drink a lot more water.

Something I just remembered...when I was young it was easier because there wasn't food every ten feet!

In my town we had one fast food place and it was for going to after dances and dates. No one went there during the day. This was before fast food became a part of life.

In contrast, in my immediate neighborhood we have six fast food places, three restaurants, three coffee houses, a liquor store and a 24-hour supermarket! I am not even counting in the bars and breweries of which there are many. And this is in a semi-rural neighborhood!

I don't remember grocery stores stocked with junk. I don't remember whole aisles with just ice cream! It's absurd.

I don't remember banks giving out cookies and popcorn.

Talking to a dietician helped.

But also one just has to close eyes to temptation.

Two meals instead of three is a good idea.

Intermittent fasting is great. I just hate it. I guess I am doing it this very moment. I had a light dinner. Now I am starving. I could eat a whole bag of popcorn. No, I don't have it in the house but I could walk five minutes away to the 24 hour supermarket.

You, my dear, are doing everything right. You are soooooo disciplined and a really big inspiration.

I really don't remember being this hungry on other diets. But as I said I used to be able to get appetite suppressants from doctors, which, I think, were a big help. I want to lose weight. I don't want to exist in hell.

I think I have the habit of emotional eating. Yes, I really think I am going to continue with Intermittent Fasting because it is the best way to break the habit of emotional eating.

Thank you for the tips. They've been really great. Thanks for taking the time.

Eat a good sized dinner or you will be hungry later in the evening I am also trying to cut back with the carbs. But I am not going crazy over it. I had chicken with chick peas in a brown gravy/sauce that I added hot sauce to spice it up a bit. then we had cauliflower with corn and I did not eat all of the corn or chick peas just until I was not hungry any more. I drank a lot of water and chewed gum to help with the psychological aspects of feeling of not snacking like I used to do.
the almonds were my down fall...I am trying to limit those.I come home usually before dinner and may have a slice of cheese. Might even have a tablespoon of peanut butter. like I said I have to make this work.
I also have 2 squares of dark chocolate 80% after dinner. very satisfying. and can usually stop at 2 but sometimes i have 4.
I am losing weight eating this way.
I see my pdoc tomorrow morning will be interested in what I weighed 3 months ago. I hope that i have lost some weight.
I will tell her that I had gotten up to 187 so have lost a good 10 pounds since nov 1st.
I will be your cheer leader if you want!

When you mentioned almonds I was thinking I couldn't do that. I cut out things I overeat...and that's nuts. Peanut butter is out. The dietician said to really limit stuff like avocados and tahini because of high calories. I was eating beans and rice but have cut them out for now. The dietician said just eat more vegetables. Gosh, I am vegetarian...I eat tons of vegetables.

When I started this thread it was about mini binge eating...and now I think that is...emotional eating.

I think Intermittent Fasting is a great tool. Because right at this time is when I do my little binges. I usually would go out and get chips and hummus right about now...or maybe popcorn...or a bagel.

More Christmas cookies are on their way in the mail. I will limit myself to one after dinner with decaf coffee...instead of snacking.

I can see there isn't really any place for snacking.

Cheese is really high in fat so I limit it to just parmesan and cottage cheese. I will overeat hard cheese.

Thanks for everything. I think your Intermittent Fasting tip was the best tip because if you do it right you can't really binge.

If I am only going to eat two meals a day I can see where I have to eat more calories per meal. Tonight's meal was pretty light. I should have eating more. I am just going to hang tight and fast tonight. Believe me, it will not harm me. I am a fat vegetarian at the moment.

almonds and cheese are low carbs and I only try to eat 6 almonds sometimes an ounce which is 22 nuts.
I hate counting calories...this is why this kind of eating works well for me I am hoping to reach 174.9 tomorrow morning.
wish me luck.

Okay...at this very moment I am eating nonfat yogurt with some roasted pumpkin seeds...because I really didn't eat enough calories at dinner and ... if I start feeling like I am starving ... I know I am in danger of a mini-binge.

The dietician recommended I snack on nonfat yogurt because it is protein and helps hold hunger.

Okay...cheese is low carb but it's high fat unless it is fat free cottage cheese. But hey, you are the one losing weight...so you must doing something right!

I love pumpkin seeds instead of nuts and they are high in zinc, as well.

I hate counting calories...but really, as the dietician said...it is all about calories. If you are limiting portions you're counting calories.

To me the idea of eating 6 almonds is torture. I'd rather eat nothing!

Obviously my discipline is weak but I will get there.

Best of luck with your weigh-in. It sounds like you are smashing it.

you are too hard on yourself.
I have been accustomed to eat 2 meals a day for a long time...it is just the snacking that I am really watching. coconut oil and olive oils have good qualities. avocados are so good for us!!!!!!They are high in fiber and have few carbs.
I made it to 174.5 this morning.
yay!

One small avocado has 320 calories. Oils are fats and high in calories.

This thread was started to address the binge mentality.

I would like to hear from those who have stopped binging and how they did it.

I thought it was 240???
anyway, you know we need fat in our diet and that is one of the best fats we could eat also.
This is basically a quiet forum so good luck getting any responses to your direct question. Just thought you would like some support.
