Hello everyone, it is nice to meet you! I think I have a drinking problem that resurfaced when I started a week long bender last week, caused by accute anxiety. But I don't think it's so bad that I have to call myself an alcoholic, I nipped it in the bud i think. My question for you guys is, what are your coping mechanisms for anxiety that does not include alcohol?

Hi and welcome,

Anxiety was part of the reason I started drinking in the first place, which led me to a horrible place with drinking, so it's good if you're able to stop.

I find for anxiety, I have to distract myself. I'm a highly tactile person, so I knit, but colouring, or playing my harp all also work. Anything that occupies my mind and keeps my hands moving seems to work.

For the more physical aspects of anxiety, such as muscle stiffness, restlessness etc., I find drinking calming herbal teas helpful.

i am an alcoholic and it was hard to say that in the beginning. How do you know you are not an alcoholic?
