OK so I don't go
To prosecco or gin days
Because to be frank,
I can't drink anymore.
My body rejects it.
Even when everyone
Thought I had thrown
My life away again
When I was tired of being
A skivvy and a slave,
It was four a day,
Six at the peak,
For about six months.
That's quite pathetic really.
That's what writers
Are supposed to do right?
Drink and then get sober.
I guess my destructive drive
Is not that destructive after all.
I have a couple of bottles
Of lager on a weekend
And that's my lot.
No spirits. No wine.
Fruit cider gives me heartburn
So no thank you.

If one drinks multiple drinks evey day for a minimum of 6 months, it's considered a problem. Those who have a drinking problem also tend to minimize/deny, much like you did in your post.

So, it may have been a temporary scenario for you and it's good this phase has passed. During this time though, and the amount you were drinking, you did develop a drinking problem. Therefore, in this scenario, alcohol was abused.

I can relate. I at least that much for a few years back in m youth. I'm lucky I didn't die from alcohol poisoning the way I drank though. I blacked out more than a few times. I like your poem.

Not in this country.
In cold countries,
A drink every day is acceptable.
Woman are permitted
So many units a day.
Yes I was drinking
More than my daily quota.

If you believe you were drinking more than your daily quota, for 6 consecutive months, that's the same as admitting to abusing alcohol, IMO.

Regardless how you want to slice it, it was a problem you chose to overcome.. or you'd still be doing it and not write posts about it.

Was this a poem? I didn't notice. If so, I'd reconsider the title, as I found the content to contradict it.

I was self medicating. I wanted to not feel anymore. Until I could blot out the pain.
I had tried so hard to get my life back on track and it still fell apart. Along with a messed up up-bringing, I had been in an abusive relationship with someone who had left me a nervous wreck. Sometimes you have to hit the bottom before you can build back up again.

People who in their youth, have been blessed to have had wonderfully supportive friends and family and mentors, don't understand what it's like to feel continually attacked, feeling like you wil never be good enough, to feel unloved and unwanted. Some people don't know what it feels like to have been in my shoes. A film or
a book may give them a glimpse and some insight into the real feeling's but they will never know.

Why is mixing milk and meat forbidden?
Milk represents birth -
New born babies.
Meat represents death -
Animals must be slaughtered.
