I have an rx for Chantix. I havent started it yet because I am waiting til after the holidays. My primary and psyche know all the meds I am on for possible interactions butI desperately need to stop smoking. My PCP told me vivid dreams are the #1 thing her patients complain about but that it subsides. In some cases she says they are nightmares and some people cant tolerate that. I am scared. For those it worked for I have been told its a life saver. Nothing as worked. All NRT's, wellbutrin, etc have done nothing to help. I need something to get over the hump of desire in order to to make the habit change. Has anyone had success with this? I am going to cross post this in addictions as well.

I saw the commercial for Chantix & what it can do to ur mental health. Most meds have lots of POTENTIALLY negative side effects. Personally, I chose not to try it out.
Best of luck, however you try to quit smoking! |

My husband has schizophrenia and a history of "attempts" so I was very leery when they gave it to him. The only complaint he had was the very vivid dreams. He was smoking almost two packs a day and within three days was down to about two-three cigs a day. By day 5 he was like I don't want one let alone need one. HOWEVER he decided on day 12 he no longer needed the Chantix even though you are supposed to be on it for about (I think) 3 months. Day 14 he decided to have a cigarette despite not really wanting one so he could "celebrate" not smoking he admits this was one of the worst decisions he's ever made.
My BFF has bipolar not sure what type and they gave him chantix. Again he said the dreams were so vivid as to be "trippy" but no other ill side effects. By day 7 he threw out all his smokes and never looked back. He stayed on the Chantix for the entire course of treatment. I think but do not quote me they gave him another round of treatment to help it stick and that was 8 years ago and he's never picked it back up. With my meds and my MI if I had to take it I would keep a journal and make sure it wasn't affecting my mood/emotions adversely. Whatever you decide good luck with quitting __________________ I think I need help 'cause I'm drowning in myself. It's sinking in, I can't pretend that I ain't been through hell.
