I notice here that food is not listed as an addiction. Can a person be addicted to food as opposed to an eating disorder. Eating disorders seem to be linked with a focus on weight and caloric intake and punishment by starving. I dont care about my weight, though I suppose I should be. I cringe at my BMI but am mostly thinking about me next snack or meal.

Hi possum220,

Yes food can definitely be an addiction, although I see people more commonly talking about sugar addiction specifically.

You might want to look into Overeaters Annonymous if you're interested in getting some support.

There's been renewed effort to get the overeating section of the eating disorders threads going again if you have interest. As a recovering alcoholic, I see a definite relationship between my relationship with food (especially sweets) & my relationship with alcohol. In fact, alcohol is metabolized as a sugar. In my case, I have to be very cautious about what & how much I eat.
