Default Sobriety is tough 🙁

129 days in…I feel like I’m improving but I’m still confused…I guess im still considered to be in early sobriety. Patience is what I’m supposed to have, but I’ve become too distracted by the symptoms that still hit now and then ☹️

It’s not everyday. Just some days. Especially during the 30 day milestones. They say symptoms come around then. And those days they come, its a certain time of day like late afternoon or early evening…like “muscle memory” of the times I start drinking. 🙁🙁🙁
Still don’t ever wanna go back to the nightmare withdrawals I had when I was drinking.

Still gonna press forward on this journey of sobriety. 😐🙏🏾

Keep pressing forward. For me it got easier over time. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years. You can do this too!!!

Early sobriety is tough, but you just have to stick it out and get through it. It does get easier and better with time.

For me, when I get hit with cravings, I think back to my last relapse and how sick I was and how bad the withdrawal was. I never want to go back there.

Do you have some kind of support group, either virtual or IRL? I found that to be critical in maintaining my sobriety.

If you're like many alcoholics, being reminded about what you DON'T remember when you really got drunk is a big motivator, too! Blackouts kicked my behind!

You're doing great, Introvrted1! The miracles will keep happening...Hang in there!

Hi. What substance(s) did u quit? Edit: i didnt read u wrote alcohol....I know it is tough. In early sobriety, use distraction as your tool. Sketch a drawing. Sew. Cook. Clean & organize, etc. What works really well is fresh air! I started jogging & worked my way up to running. I even lost 30 pounds. And then your body is of course ongoing healing, from the substance residual. KEEP GOING

Me, too. Oceans of it! You don't have to drink hard liquor to have a serious issue with alcohol.

What brand beer did u always buy? Something about American beer is so freaking addicting. U need the crap non-stop & keep building tolerance. So u ultimately need to purchase larger quantities & have a constant stock. Beer was always a constant with me. I would carry cans in my coat pockets & purse. I hope u are getting along well, today!

I used to always buy very strong beer…Sierra Nevada Torpedo which was 8.2% ABV. I would drink at late afternoon after work till I passed out sleep later that night…Or binge drink all weekend. 🙁 Anyway I got fed up with needing more and more beers to get high and pass out. Finally quit…Day 138 now

I drank Natural Ice or sometimes malt liquor because they were cheap and had high alcohol contents. It wasn't about taste, that's for sure. Congrats, again, on the continuous sobriety.

Sorry you had a rough day. But you got through it. You get stronger with every rough day you make it through.

Gets better with more sober time

Well I walk alot to distract myself from focusing too much on my symptoms… I’m grateful they’re not always there but when it appears, I can somewhat cope. The walks really help. I try to get at least 10,000 steps per day in. I sometimes get up to 15-17k.

Thanks for asking ariadne2 and I hope you’re also hanging in there 👍🏾✌🏾
