I have been having a lot of urges to use lately. I think it is related to the quitting smoking. Which by the way, I have made it over 2 weeks. I know I am going to make it through this....it is just really tough right now. I am not having too many urges about drinking. It's mainly the crack. I also sit at my computer and fantasize about any type of pill--anything to just numb out--I want the euphoria of getting high--that feel good thing. I hate to say it, but I enjoy taking drugs--they just ruin my life. I am not craving the booze as much because it got to the point it no longer made me feel good. But, I don't care what anybody says--crack or a few pain killers always make me feel good. I just want to feel good.

I've been having urges to use lately. Haven't had a drink in 5yrs, but have abused pills, but its like suddenly I want to see if I can get drunk but control it :-(
I am afraid that once I wipe out my alcohol sobriety date there will be nothing to keep me from quiting again... __________________ Here is the test to find whether your mission on earth is finished. If you're alive, it isn't. ~Richard Bach |

There's a statement I like to contemplate which I once copied from a book 8-10 years ago:
You can never get enough of what you don't really want. I use it when I'm craving a particular food and try to eat other things to make the craving go away? 5,000 carrots isn't going to stop a craving for the leftover pizza __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

Depressme,
I'm really sorry you're having urges. My addictions Dr. always likes to say "The drug does what the drug does and we want it for that reason." I can really relate to wanting to feel good, although that's not the reason I drank - I wanted numb - it's a hard feeling to replicate when you know that there's a quick fix available. But try to remember how much hard work you've put into your recovery and that drugs are only a short term solution with a lot of long term negatives. You can get through this, I have confidence in you. Splitimage |

((( DePressMe )))
You know what they say....this too shall pass. Doesn't help a lot when you're in it, but if you believe it'll pass, it will. You're a strong woman, and I have faith that you'll make it. __________________ |

Wow, now that must be a hard battle. Im sure if pain killers and alcohol didnt kill our stomaches and liver and everything else we would do them like mad.

I just realized that the last statement in my post was "I just want to feel good." That is so true. I posted in General about that, so I won't go into it here. There seems to be a theme here--one I might need to explore a little more with my T and pdoc.
BTW, I have failed in quitting smoking...but I will pick another date a quit again...soon. __________________ You don't have to fly straight... ...just keep it between the lines!

When all else fails, "Try, Try, Try Again". I am not even going to ATTEMPT quitting smoking now. Have you tried a hypnotist? I have a friend that used a hypnotist and it worked - 10 years later he still does not smoke!
Something I will try if one ever comes around to this small town again! I can't wait to get the courage up to quit smoking FOR GOOD! I know it's hard. And when you are so used to being "addicted" to something it's hard to not be addicted to anything! I always wished I was one of those people that just didn't need any "addiction" sadly I am not. And I have to work at it! I'm here for ya! __________________ "Life is short, you get one shot, make it count." ~ Yours Truly |

Ah, sorry you didn't make it D. Just gear up for the next attempt. I'm sure you'll lick it eventually.
