My dad has fallen and hit his head in the bathroom many times. Sometimes he doesn't answer the phone - we've had to do a wellness check on him a few times. He always says his phone was in the couch cushions or something but I always picture him passed out or going through withdrawals or fallen in the bathroom. I feel like we don't have much to say to each other lately. Its just dead air even when he's chipper and happy and says "Hiya Mooser!" When I call. I want our time together to be good and sometimes we go down memory lane from when I was a kid-under 10- and that always feels nice. We never talk about my adolesence because that's when his drinking got bad. What am I saying? It's still bad!

I am sorry as it is a progressive disease. My friend got to the level of drinking daily she fell and broke some ribs and had to be hospitalized. During the nite after her children left from visiting her all her organs shut down and she died. My friend was only 50 years old. There was always an excuse to why she had to drink always a drama to get past. This is part of the denial.

Roxanne Toto.........Stay strong & detached from your Dads toxicity. Protect your Mum as you've been doing. But also, u need to protect yourself! Because how I said alcoholism is a vile toxicity.. It seeps out hatred to everyone it touches. U need to protect your energy, your mind, your well being. First & foremost! So u can continue to be there for Mum. Too bad your Dad doesn't quit drinking. They've done statistics on alcoholics who have died from falls, just in a bathroom area! I've read many books on alcoholism written by Doctors. The books did help me quit alcohol, eventually. The books were a tool. Alanon would really help u. You need help to fight your Dads alcoholism & the mess it brings onto YOU. Stay vigilant & strong cuz alcohol is powerful.

I'm very sorry about your friend. So many of my old drinking buddies passed away young, also. 2 more have died, I read online, searching their names What I wanted to say, is how your friend had dramas always going on, used as excuses to drink....the stinking alcohol caused the dramas, to begin with, I'd bet.

@Moose72....Have u spoken to your Dad & told him u cherish your fond memories with him & want many more, to come? Maybe that could help your Dad want to stop. Don't give up hope, ever. Maybe u could help him see the light with just a simple truth that u care about him. Alcoholics can quit drinking!
