He made to 76 which is incredible if you think about it. Although he went through. AA at one point in his life, I know he was drinking in his later years and he had numerous health problems. I cried off and on the day he died. I hadn’t seen him in years and regret that I missed a FaceTime call from my sister and him the day before he died.

You clearly have your own mental health challenges. You chose to take care of your own needs. Don’t beat yourself up for doing what you needed to do for yourself.

Big hugs and condolences to you Moose72. Totally feel you. Not sure where my heart will be when it's my fathers turn. Maybe we get to see them again on the other side when we're all pure souls. Peace and love to you.

Thanks, @mote.of.soul I can’t help but wonder if his drinking contributed to his death. Most likely it was all of his medical issues together that did him in.

You're welcome mate. Yeah, gotta be all the health issues put together, yes. Exacerbated by the drinking. I had a friend with Hep C who just couldn't kick alcohol and pills. I knew it would get him and he knew too, which it did unfortunately. He would've been stronger physically and mentally to fight the hepatitis if he were sober. I totally believe that. It drowned his will to live.

In addition to this, there is no way you could've known that at that exact minute that would be your last chance to talk to your pa. It's not even that whatever you were doing/thinking was more important, it's just at that moment you didn't pick up the phone which people do all the time.

I had my phone on me. It wasn’t an iPhone- I now have one- so the video chat went to my iPad which was at home and I wasn’t. I FaceTimed my sister back and she answered but said she’d left my dad’s place and didn’t feel like going back. I still wish I would’ve been able to answer the call.

So sorry for your loss, Moose.

I attended a grief webinar a couple of weeks ago...

The website MyGrief.ca was mentioned as a resource and it seems pretty good... just thought I'd share.
