Is there a correlation between an eating disorder and colitis or chrones? Can an eating disorder cause it? Have any of u been diagnosed with colitis or chrones but really it was an eating disorder not an irritable bowel disorder?

I don't know the direct answer to your question, however, I have irritable bowel syndrome and am a recovering anorexic. I see a GI dr for my IBS and he knows that I have an ED. It is kind of a which came first question for me. I have had bowel problems since I was a teenager and had my ED since I was 15, I am now 33. I know I do not have colitis or chrones for sure because I have had tests done to see what is causing my bowel issues.

I don't have either of those..what happens to me however if i haven't eaten in a few days when i do eat..i almost immediately get hit with diarrhea...stress has usually brought me to that point in the first place..so put them both together...not good especially if I'm out somewhere.

However when eating more normally i have NO problems.

I started having serious anorexia issues when i was 42 & now 61 mostly under control until something triggers it.
