Hey all,

I am getting kind of nervous. I lost my period a month ago. I am not worried about being pregnant. I have lost a lot of weight recently from restriction/exercise. I am still within "normal" weight. Weird thing three yrs ago when the ED was worse and I was under weight I never lost my period. I went to my GYN thinking maybe I am going through menopause I am 44. She ran a test and its not that she believes the weight loss caused my period to stop. Where I am getting scared is the "what if" thoughts....like what if my heart stops. That is a scary ***** thought to have going through your head. The therapist i see is not trained for ed's but says she can help me she told me to eat more protein and veggies? I really need a nutritionist to get me back on course and WISH I could find a ED T - I know where all this is stemming from but most therapists dont want to deal with pasts. I need to deal with the past or its going to kill me someday.....

Hey anxiety257, sorry to hear you are feeling kind of anxious. I know how that can be. One thing happens and I start thinking the worse. The good thing is that that worse case scenario just does not happen. I survived a lifetime of these and am still breathing!

I find that if I have some protein every 3-4 hours, even a small snack, then I am less anxious and less stressed. I try to cut out heavy carbohydrates like bread, pastries, sugar, alcohol. I guess I found a diet that keeps me fairly stable. That seems to work for me.

It sounds like (in my opinion anyway), that maybe you need to look for a new therapist. If she's not willing to deal with the issues you need to deal with than you need to find one that will. I'm sure there's one out there, it just might take some time and homework...
Is it possible for you to see a nutritionist? They might be more helpful with getting your eating back on track than a therapist not even trained in eating disorders. My therapist is amazing. Easily the best I've ever had, and she doesn't specialize in eating disorders, but she definitely is out of her league when it comes to the nutritional counseling.
