I watched this criminal minds episode (Season 4 Episode 15) and the unsub said something along the lines of "It's normal for me to see someone with a stupid look on their face and want to smash them on the head with a bottle. I don't understand how everyone doesnt feel that way."

I found I really related to that quote. I rarely go out in public because I just want to punch someone in the face. Especially if they come across as arrogant. Can anyone else relate to this?

Everyone does feel that way. Years of treacherous normalcy suppressed their inner lizard brain. They're now too afraid to acknowledge such thoughts and too ashamed to admit them.

I agree with Mike. Everyone WANTS to hurt others that don't deserve it for any higher reason than they are inconvenient or aggravating or otherwise inferior to oneself. It's ****ed up. At least if you acknowledge your nature, you can self-contain to a degree... But if you pretend to be ignorant for no reason beyond social acceptibility? That's probably a large reason why the world is so corrupt. They're all just deluding themselves & attempting to force us into the same delusion. It doesn't matter how much cognitive power we have: we are still animals. I think the human race's arrogance surpasses that of any case of NPD.

Hello, avesher. I do not feel that way. It is quite amusing how some purport to know so much.
Thanks for this!

I think your id would have to agree to disagree... Whether the harm is physical or psychological, I'd say humankind does more harm than good to one another. It doesn't matter whether people actively recognize their intentions or not, but they are perfectly clear.

And don't misunderstand. I think your point of view is valid & perhaps you don't actively recognize or seek out this part of your subconscious. Perhaps it's felt no need to be wasted on anyone for whatever reason... I personally haven't engaged in active, non-sexual violence since I was in elementary school. But I think a lot of people forget to realize that, no matter how advanced we are, we are still all predatory creatures. We have just been weakened by the enforced inhibition called "moral code".

Your hypothesis remains unproved. Your lack of empathy clouds your judgment.
Thanks for this!

Lol, that's why it's a hypothesis.

But there's no doubt you're right. Much like most people's excessive empathy clouds their's, it's just another extreme. What else would you expect in this dark little area of the forum? Hahaha

Actually, your hypothesis is sound. Social psychologists have long known that humans mentally and socially create in-groups and out-groups. As a result, prejudice arises. And when two groups are competing for ... land, resources, ideology, political power, or whatever... That prejudice becomes something far worse, as observed in Sherif's Robbers Cave Experiment.

As one very influential social psychologist once said, "When the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other."

Sad, but true. Civilized society allows for complex thoughts and reasoning, as well as our complex moral codes. This is because we have time to think about such things. We are not in immediate danger. But when society collapses, or when we're in a situation that calls for an immediate response, the lizard brain will take over.

Quite literally!! Hahahaha

Everything else: Very much spot on & what I was attempting to simplistically convey... I haven't been as well-spoken as usual these days.

No worries. It happens to the best of us.

@ Shay-I think you would like Freud's "Civilization and its discontents", especially when you say everyone wants to hurt others, and the of acknowledging one's nature = self containment.

@anyone...anyone see that criminal minds episode where the team gives a class on psychopaths/serial killers? Any thoughts on it... or was that too broad of a question lol.

I'll have to read more on that. And since I've been feeling more studious lately, that is highly appropriate...

And which episode was that? I'll have to somehow find it & rewatch it so I can make a proper assessment. I'm sure it's just a regurgitation of common stereotypes, but perhaps Spencer had some further interesting information? If it's accurate in the least, I will be equally pleased & surprised! Hahah

Yea its an entertaining read as well, besides what he is known for, Freud was a great writer as well, in my opinion.

I just looked all over for that episode, all the descriptions are kinda similar, so I will just say that it was last weeks episode, or the week before that...we record it ahead of time to skip through all the commercials so I'm not sure exactly which one it was. I don't want to give my opinion yet because I don't want to change any directions someone might go with it if they choose to look it up-but I am interested in what you think about the sterotypes that show up here if you find any.

Take care,

I disagree all people feel that way. I've looked at my own reflection in the window at the train or subway, and I look just as dumb as other people.

People usually have to open their mouth to anger me. And these days I more want to yell at them than anything. But I don't... so far.
