I've had two psych docs hint I may have avoidant personality disorder but I have never been formally diagnosed. I have a very hard time calling people. I haven't had a friend in years. I have always been shy and introverted and withdrawn and depressed.

I don't know how to make friends. I don't know how to talk to people I don't know and I keep putting this off.
Thanks for this!

Have you thought about going into therapy? It could really help you. While you debate that post and comment on here and get to know some of us as practice for the real world. What could it hurt? What could it help? It could help alot. You never know until you try.

I really hate to burst your bubble, but this is nothing like antisocial personality disorder. It's a common misconception, as people tend to assume "antisocial" means avoiding people.

Might I suggest you post in the anxiety section of the forums? I'm sure there are other people with issues about being withdrawn & you might find answers here.

So, do you want advice from ASPDers or did you foolishly post in the wrong forum?

"Advice from ASPDers" on being lonely? God, that could become quite the spectacle... Of course. We should see what s/he says before diving right in.

I get the impression he's avoiding your question.

Lycanthrope: You're probably right. :P

obj: It definitely can & does happen; which is why ASPD tends to be fairly interpersonally problematic. This still varies from person to person, however... Some people are introverts, some are extroverts, & have varying levels for their need of people.
