I was at the Vet hospital today with my dog. Everyone inculding the Vet was very friendly towards me and my dog except for one staff member. She appeared busy and somewhat aloof towards me. As she was processing my bill, the doggie tooth brush that I had on the counter fell behind the counter towards her side. I said something like "ooooops can you get that" and after she did I said "thank-you". She placed a bag on the counter for me to put my dog stuff into (I thought this was odd since I am use to the staff putting the dog stuff into the bag on previous occasions) and I said "thank-you" after she gave me the bag. And she said a brief "bye", I could barely hear it.

My worry is that I don't know if I offended her or upset her by not saying "please can you get that (the tooth brush)". I had alot on my mind worrying about my dog's health and my head was still racing. I am normally a polite person.

My anxiety is telling me paranoid things like this staff member is upset with me and going to tell the Vet that I was mildly rude towards her by not saying please.

My logical mind tells me that this staff member has probably had a long busy day and sees all sorts of customers/dogs. And me forgeting to say "please" can be overlooked and not be taken as a major offense.

Zen I agree with everyone else. If you said please then that is good enough. A lot of people do have bad days, and really it's not because of you. Maybe her co-workers or boss got on her butt. What I do is if someone is really being RUDE to me I just ask them are you having a bad day?

I'm sure they have had experience with people who are rude, which you were not. Maybe she was just having a bad day.

Do we go to the same Vet? I had a similar experience last time I went to the vet clinic. Everybody was so sweet except for this one lady who made me feel like she hated me for some reason.

And I ruminated about what I might have done to offend her, but you know what? I think she might have been having a bad day or just had a negative personality...who knows?

What I do know is that I'm sure you were very polite with her, judging by how you are with your posts. Just because you didn't say "please" should not have affected her that way...if she was, then, well, she over-reacted. Not your problem, or mine, in my case.

We can't be responsible for everyone's feelings...alll of the time.

I'm just glad your dog is fine. That's what's important! And you are a great doggie mom, Zen!

Zen 888, You are not at fault. Going to the VET IS A MAJOR STRESS. What you feel is real for you.

I FEEL FOR YOU! Sometimes we forget to say 'Thank You!' and any other 'Thanks! I don't think these people see it as a personal thing. They deal with alot of people per day and many due to heartache forget to say 'Thanks at the End'! I know from experince my Vet has a tear and is beside herself everytime she has to do the Green Dream.

I have more than 8 dogs that I need to look after and at times I am not sure if I am doing everything I can for them. Just me as, I am just over the top looking after my babies, but I always question myself if etc...............
