Someone mentioned that the Anxiety forum would be a good place to discuss phobias, and I agree; so here goes:
Do you have a phobia or phobias that you would like to discuss here? I'll go first. I'm claustrophobic, afraid of heights, and deathly afraid of any kind of lizard. |

Bees and wasps! Me too, eesh those things are scary. Also people i dont know are a phobia for me. Heights are a phobia but im fine in a plane as there is a metal casing around me,,,put me on a ladder or something tho, even 3 feet off the ground and im freaked out. Mainly bees tho,,that would definately be my strongest phobia with people trailing slightly behind. Heights is easier to avoid so it doesnt effect me very much.

Hi folks,
Well, as I mentioned once before on psych central, I have a phobia (if that's what it is) about lamp posts. I just can't stand it when a lampost isn't perpendicular. I can manage a little bit of a lean, but if the post is really lopsided it does me in. I have been known to plan my walk to avoid leaning lamposts, and I often line them up against buildings and stuff, just to see how far out of true they are. The odd thing is that I don't mind leaning trees, it's like trees are allowed to lean, but lamposts - they should be straight up. It's a good thing we can laugh at ourselves now and then! Cheers, Myzen |

Spiders; Saunas; Unleashed dogs; nothing really out of the ordinary. As for saunas, I remember going in one as a child and had to dash out because I couldn't breathe. I almost panicked but I got out quick in time.

Spiders, people breaking into my house or trying to get me or something, needles, bees or wasps, scary movies (i just avoid them cause I don't want nightmares), and I'm sure there is more but I can't remember them now.

Spiders (only a little now)
Mice/rats Heights/Falling or things that can fall (airplanes/bridges) Water that's over my head Dark (mostly it just causes some anxiety - not bad) Dirty touch (complex - not a germ thing)(not sexual either) Food; potentially spoiled food (complex) |

Centipedes. I grabbed one in the shower thinking it was a glob of hair stuck over the drain (didn't have my contacts in). My ex said I screamed so loud the neighbors probably thought he was killing me. LOL
I don't like that disoriented feeling of not knowing which way is up after getting dumped into the pool from a big water slide (but it doesn't stop me from going on them). __________________ If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space! Rondeau |

First I have to say - WI-fighter- hope you don't mind me laughing, but that cracked me up-- "didn't have my contacts in--- the neighbors probably thought he was killing me"!! so funny I wish I could scream when scared-- I just freeze and lose my breath.
Phobias: spiders, heights, needles and.... this one is strange... think it has something to do with my childhood but can't remember what-- I'm afraid of balloons. At the park if there's a person there making animal balloons-- I'll be clear on the other side of the park-- I can't tolerate being near the helium tank at stores if balloons are being inflated --- I'll skip buying whatever I need if it's by the inflating balloons! My phobia list go's on and on. I remember a thread like this a while back.
I hate ocean water. I like it, to look at it. not to touch it. I think the ocean ( to watch it) it the most peaceful thing on earth. Heights Ticks (lime diseased ridden bugs) |

I've got really bad acrophobia, and I'm DEATHLY afraid of dead fish. Just the other day at work, the chef had a medium-sized fish (that happened to be dead) laying on the cutting board thingers. I started SCREAMING!! eeesh, I'm not afraid of alive fish (as long as they're in the water) as much as when they're dead.

I'm so terrified of spiders, even those 'grand daddy long legs' and baby spiders. I felt something crawling on my leg a few months back and looked down and it was a baby spider and I started panicing and couldn't breathe and the next thing I remember is my mom tapping my face asking if I was alright. I had passed out.
I don't touch spiders as much as possible. If I see a spider, I run screaming and beg someone to come kill it before it gets away. The sight of a spider and the thought of a spider makes my skin crawl. I'm severely scared of them. __________________ ... What's this life for? |
