I have a problem but im not sure if it has anything to do with ocd or anxiety, im 20 years old and i always have these thoughts that something will happen to my parents, everytime they go somewhere i feel scared that something bad will happen .. god forbid. I dont know what to do i really cant get these thoughts out of my head even when they are home i keep thinking about it. Im wondering also if it has anything to do with my horrible car accident, am i just so afraid of something happening to a loved one because i experienced a some what deadly accident? Thank you for your replies.

PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) is an anxiety disorder, if that helps...

(((((((newyork))))))

Its hard when you feel like that, isn't it? Its like there's NO escape....That anxiety is SO intense and all consuming...
((((((hugs))))))))

Plus being 20 is the sort of age, in my experience (I'm 35) when that sort of feeling can be very active anyway..

Are you seeing a therapist? That might help.
Also possibly anti-anxiety medication?

I hope you find the support you need.

I would think that if you can find one that you trust...

Others may have more ideas, good luck...(I've got to get off to work now.!)

It sounds like generalized anxiety to me... and yes, a therapist can definitely help, even if you don't want to take medication. I have generalized anxiety and I also get those annoying intrusive (kind of obsessional) thoughts about bad things happening to my loved ones. I just started taking zoloft, but I have to say that a relationship with a T I trust helped a lot! Good luck!

Yeah I believe therapy is important. Trying to find the root of your anxiety and to deal with that. I have Panic Disorder, OCD and Depression. I avoided medication for a long, long time. Partly because my OCD (fear of medication) and partly because I didnt want to accept that I needed medication to make me "normal". Finally, I had to understand that my illness is chemical. Something that is beyond my control and that the medication is there to help. And it does help a great deal.
I have intrusive thoughts just like you and it is the hardest thing to deal with. Having a T to talk it over with take courage but probably the best route to go. I wish you luck with this as I know how difficult this must be for you. Please take care and keep us posted.

P.S. Ozzie had a good suggestion about the breathing. It really helps. In my T sessions we have talked about my intrusive thought and how to handle them. When you have a thought. Notice the thought. Do not judge your thoughts. Understand that it is just a thought no matter how horrible or painful it is. It's not reality, it is just a thought. Also, try to distract yourself. When you have a thought, quickly name 5 things you can see around you. Then name five things you can touch. Then name 5 things you can hear. I know it sounds a little "cooky" but it helps distract your mind. Count backwards by three's from 100. I would also suggest some books for understanding anxiety and OCD. These books are most helpful.

I hope I helped. Take care Hey everyone need some advice

I'm not sure how long you have had this worry for. Perhaps it is some kind of separation anxiety?
