I have always had kind of a phobia of crowds. I get all my shopping done before thanksgiving so I don't have to go to the mall, I can't stand crowded clubs and bars etc... I start feeling like I can't breathe and I have to constantly concentrate on not hyperventilating.

Well I have been playing around with this memory but wasn't sure if it was real, something I had dreamt or maybe seen in a movie. So I asked my dad and he told me about how when I was 8 him and my step-mom had been at a festival with me and my dad was holding my hand when he felt me let go. He said he turned around and saw a guy grabbing me and trying to take me so he ran over and grabbed me back. Once my dad told me that I started piecing it together that maybe that's why I have this phobia of crowds. I can't believe I was almost kidnapped 14 years ago and just blocked it out. Makes me wonder what else I have been repressing....

good work on your part. That is very telling and now you know that your system is very good at protecting yourself. You may or may not discover more hidden memories. That is a great start!

(((((((( salukigirl )))))))))

I know it stinks when you start to remember something from the past but this is progress. Putting two and two together and working out why the panic sets in means you can start to do something about it. It's painful but it is healing.

Hi Salukigirl!
congrats on your breakthrough. Its great you were able to ask your father and get it checked out. Ive had anxiety for something over 27 years or so and my memory is appalling - but nothing traumatic has happened to me, I just think its an effect of the anxiety itself...Ive spent too much of my life in an anxiety induced detached-from-life fog! So please dont worry too much about what else might be lurking beneath...use this insight to help you continue moving forward.
I know what you mean when you say you were not sure if it was something you dreamt, or saw in a movie. I find my family will talk to me about something we all did together some time ago, and I can imagine it, but I dont feel like I am really remembering it. Oh well.
Oh..and tell you Dad what a hero he is! A frightening experience, but with a happy end on the day!
