Yesterday I drove 38 miles! Usually only drive asbout 5 before getting panic attack. At mile 36 I started having a doozy of an attack and thought I woulkdn't be able to make it to the rest area. Felt like I was limping in after a marathon. Drenched in sweat and hyperventillating. Tried breathing exercises and just ended up panting. That was one awful attack and really freaked me out. Handed the car over to my passenger and just tried to breathe tll I got home. Am scared to drive today.

You went 7 times longer than usual and you made it to the rest area! That is quite an accomplishment!

Driving is scary. I am afraid I will hit someone or someone will hit me. Cars are huge chunks of metal - your fear is very rational, even if most of the world seems to think that driving is safe.

Perhaps next time, you stop BEFORE the panic attack? You can do this! Just take it slow...and pat yourself on the back when you do well - which you did yesterday, despite the attack.
Thanks for this!

Hippie -- wow!!! You knew it scares you and you did it anyway - congratulations!! 38 miles compared to your usual of 5 is amazing, it really is, like englishteacher said that's 7 times longer than normal (I'll take her word for it on the maths :P)

The attack is fortunate, but you have anxiety about driving so that's to be expected, you should feel proud that you managed 36 miles before you panicked! Well done for staying calm for 36 miles.. and then to carry on for 2 more miles, that's great. I hope it's shown you that you're capable.

x

I am sorry you had the attack but wanted to congratulate you on your accomplishment of having gotten so much further than before. Well done. That is an achievement.

I too suffer panic when driving.. I tend to go blank and run red lights.. Or tailgate someone so I don't speed..I have made a habit of doing all my driving early in the mornings..If I wait to long I will talk myself out of it..Maybe make your appte.. for first thing in the morning..
Thanks for this!

englishteacher was right....it's slightly over 7 times (remember 7 X 5= 35).

I have panic attacks while I'm a passenger in a moving car.... I can't even try and get my license right now because of the attacks.

Congrads on making it 38 miles. That's definitely an accomplishment.

Bow chicka wow wow!! That's awesome!!! It sucks that such a major accomplishment was concluded with a panic attack, but you definitely deserve to bask a little in the glow of having really outdone yourself. I'd consider this a major step forward. Great stuff!

WTG !! Major accomplishment!! Please pat yourself on the back for me. Overcoming phobias is not easy - but look how far you have come already! Woohoo ! Please try to drive the same route again, thinking about how you MADE it last time, (leave out the stinkin thinkin about having had a panic attack at mile 36)and you know where the rest stop is. Keep doing that til you don't even have to stop there, and keep on keepin' on !!!
Thanks for this!
