I was actually totally housebound for five entire months because of anxiety and panic. When I was able to go to a doctor specializing in it, he taught me some pretty cool self hypnosis tricks and visualization/breathing that helps me a LOT.
My panic and anxiety aren't caused by specific fears or thoughts of things. I know when you are in severe panic you need meds, too and believe me I take them - though sometimes I can get so panicked it would seem that even a horse tranquilizer couldn't calm me down! Anyone try those sort of exercises? What do you recommend? |

My aunt (now 89) did a lot of self hypnosis work 20-30 years ago and use to help herself feel warmer if she'd forgotten a jacket on a cool day (she worked outside a lot after she retired from teaching).
There's even a professional psychotherapy and medical hypnosis association in the US. http://hypnosiseducationcenter.com/
