My doctor just prescribed celexa for my GAD. I'm already on Wellbutrin for depression. Has celexa helped anyone out there with their anxiety?

I honestly can't tell most of the time. Zoloft made a difference other people could notice, and I stopped taking it due to side effects. Started taking Clonopin only as needed (my doctor wanted me to take it twice a day). Since I wasn't taking the Clonopin all the time, I started taking Celexa. I don't really notice the Celexa, although I skipped it yesterday because I ran out of refills and no longer have insurance, and spent all night unable to sleep, wandering around, and ended up hiding in a closet. I don't know why I didn't take some Clonopin, but I didn't want to. So maybe it makes a difference.

I had asked for Wellbutrin because I wanted more energy, and my doctor said no because it can worsen anxiety.

I think it does help. Only because I have been off it for about two weeks and my anxiety and panic have been out of control. SSRI's do help with anxiety they say..

My mom and brother are both on Celexa for anxiety, specifically OCD. Both of them consider it a true blessing. You're not supposed to see any obvious change immediately, of course, but you should notice little things after a while. You will hopefully reach a kind of normalcy that will cause you to ask, "Is this working?" That is a good thing! That means that the drug has had no dramatic or noticeable effect, because your previous problems have diminished. Of course, no single drug works for everyone.

Celexa can also help with depression. It is actually an antidepressant that can be used to treat anxiety. Did this same doctor prescribe the Wellbutrin?

I hope that if you choose to take the Celexa that it works out well for you!

I take Celexa what its supposed to do is stop anxiety before it has a chance to start, unlike Xanax which you take to help the symptoms. I think it has helped me.

You know before Celexa i was anxious like 99 percent of my waking hours, on a scale of 1-10 it was riding high at a 10...the first two days on celexa i didnt think it could get any worse i wanted to jump out of my own skin, but after the two days, it was like a miracle, all the anxiety was gone, i mean i have been on it now for maybe 5 monthes and i have 0 anxiety, it really has been a miracle drug for me.

Wow. That's really great Ryask! I'm so glad the Celexa has helped your anxiety so much. I have really bad GAD with panic attacks and specific phobias. I take Zoloft and it used to help, but now it doesn't so much. I took Celexa several years ago, but at the time my anxiety wasn't bad and I was taking it for depression. I think I might give Celexa another go and see if it helps my anxiety.

Good luck to you dayton!! Let us know how you get on!

As for me, my major issue is or was major anxiety - stress - tension -feeling a lot of panic most of the time and mind with racing negative thoughts, and eating a lot of comfort foods to deal with it it

Been on 1/2 dosage for 6 days and now 20mg a day I for two day now take it when home after work but before dinner.

Wow now feeling clam, very low anxiety level, no racing negative thoughts, stops me from eating after dinner or it seems to now.

Only side effect which I can live with - I like to take a little nap 20 minutes after I take it I'm still very much in my discovery stage of being treated with Celexa .. for now I'm happy Doctor say it takes 30 on full dosage to feel real effect - so far 8 days Major improvement

When i first started it it helped. After about 3 months it stopped helping so the dose was increased. Continued on this cycle for about a year then changed to prozac which didn't help at all. Pdoc told me that these meds can stop helping sometimes even when they have been working in the past

yeah, celexa 40 mg works for anxiety in that it makes me functional

not really helping with the depression because I have gained so much weight but it is also the combination of celexa, klonopin and abilify that caused the weight gain I think

I am also taking some vitamin supplements like magnesium, vitamin d, and iron and 5htp which help but could be causing weight gain also

on celexa though I had to wait it out for about 4-6 weeks to have benefits. I had to tough out the initial side effects and heightened anxiety

best wishes

Actually, I took celexa 40mg also, but it was so long ago, I can't remember whether I took it at night or morning. But unfortunetly it didnt help me, but everyones chemical make up is different, so different things effect different folks, differently.

I take it in the morning, but I think it is one that can be taken at night or morning.

p.s. It's probably the xanax that makes you sleepy, but if you notice being sleepy when you just take celexa, ask your doctor about changing when you take it.
