Ok, well I went to the psychologist today, after a long time of not going without a friend coming with me to set up the appointment because I thought the psychologist would think I'm crazy and making things up. The psychologist I spoke to said a lot of the things I had described to her in my paperwork shows signs of an anxiety issue, pretty much an anxiety disorder, that's also resulting in obsessive-compulsive behaviours. She then sent me to the counselor to further talk, and he agreed that there was an obvious anxiety issue. So I came back and researched GAD and was stunned by how much it fit me, as compared to other things, just like a lot of obsessive-compulsive things related. The biggest thing was the intrusive thoughts that result in some behaviours, or I just let the worrisome/intrusive thoughts go through. One of the more recent thoughts would be that not too long ago a guy in the group I'm in was voted out, and since i took part in the vote i freaked out thinking he was going to curse everyone. I couldn't stop the thought at all, no matter what I tried, it was strongest the first day, then it dwindled and went away about 3 days later.

I was wondering, could they be right?

That is just a short list I put up in the OCD thread a while back, you can read through it and see if maybe there is obvious anxiety.

If you have any questions, I really don't mind answering anything you ask.

I really just want to know a little more certainly if they are right.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you trying to figure out if you have Anxiety or GAD INSTEAD of OCD?

Based on the list you posted, my guess would be you have some parts of both...if you read the symptoms of OCD you'd probably fit a lot of them, but probably fit the Anxiety ones too.

It's ok to have more than one.

I'm bipolar, but I have anxiety and panic attacks and a lot of obsessive thoughts...it all kind of goes together.

Let the psychologist and Counselor worry about what the actual diagnosis is, and focus on how to feel better.

I was treated for GAD and what you say makes sense to me; our anxious thoughts about what could or might happen in the future, and that can mean anything at all since no one can see/know the future, can really do a number on us. It seems to me that people with good imaginations are more prone to problems like ours.

Sorry jadedmoonbeam, I didn't mean to be unclear, it was late when I wrote that. I was just asking if it also appeared to you all that I have anxiety problems. And because of these anxiety problems, according to the psychologist, I also have obsessive-compulsive behaviours, that make me fit OCD as well to an extent. I was just wondering what others thought of what the psychologist and counselor said. I was also wondering if those types of things listed could be related to GAD.

Yeah Perna, the thoughts are really annoying and worrisome, last night I was afraid to go to sleep because I didn't want to dream about a particular event someone I know mentioned to me. I have a lot of worrisome thoughts, not all the time of course, but often enough that it's noticeable, and i can't do much about it even though the things I think about aren't really too possible.

If you have questions, you can ask me and I'll be glad to answer.

Sorry I wasn't really clear before, but I'll try to be more clear in the future

I have GAD, PTSD, bipolar, autism, and supposedly OCD. The OCD symptoms may just be caused from my other conditions, though. I, too, wonder how much is just OCD symptoms caused by other anxiety conditions.

No need to apologize at alli was just trying to understand what you were asking.

I think, OCD can be made worse by being anxious...I recently read that many people who suffer from OCD give in to the compulsions because it feels good and is easier than trying to control. I also know my obsessive thoughts make me very anxious.

Hope that helps - i didn't mean to make you feel like you had to apologize....
