Good question!! Anxiety and panic are most definitely experienced in your body. And chronic stress and anxiety can make you physically ill. In my opinion Panic Disorder and other severe anxiety problems are very much mind/body illnesses. Another term for that is psychosomatic.

In general it's unfortunate that there is a distinction between mental and physcal illnesses. And that mental seems to carry a 'stigma.' There is such a crossover between them, for instance, people who suffer from Heart disease often have associated depression, vice versa anxiety almost always has physcial symptoms. Illness is illness period. I try to just think that most management of both physical illness and mental illness involves medication and lifestyle changes, ie. diet, exercise, therapy and not get bogged down in the label.
