So I bring my son to the store today to get a birthday cake... and just to set things off I find they are discontinuing one of my favorite candies (yes, I bought every last pack in the store :P )... so I'm in a mood... Well, we get our stuff, check out and head for the car. No sooner do I reach the parking lot do I see two ladies in their early 70's, one on each side of my car pointing, laughing, gasping and nit picking how dirty my car is. I'm sorry, I have a cavalier that I bought well used with nearly 200,000 miles on it. Yes, there is a saddle and tack box in the back as well as laundry soap that I forgot to take out. My son with autism wipes his hands on the seat and other oddities... No I don't drive a nice new Mercedes with all leather interior and have all the time in the world to point, stare and laugh at those who may not have the things I have!

I am curling up in bed and pulling the blankets over my head!

I'm so sorry, Omers, and I couldn't agree with you more. Sending good vibes for you.

Omers, Omers, Omers. People like that are such trash! If you try hard enough you can entirely blank them out. They and their comments and laughter just cease to exist. You're from New York (as am I); you should know how to do this. You, your child, your life, are all perfectly valid. Anything that goes against that knowledge just isn't there. I thought that this was a social skill that EVERY New Yorker knows. I certainly learned it in grade school. (PS 98.) There's no reason to let them get to you. Even if you're now in Indiana. They're rats, beetles, cockroaches. Shrug them off. Spray them. They're easier to deal with than bedbugs. Take care!

Wow, how awful! I cannot believe they did that in front of your son.

People find the strangest things to judge, don't they? I laughed when I saw the title of your thread but I'm with you, too!

Huh, just imagine how sad and empty their lives must be if that's the sort of thing with which they choose to concern themselves. How dismal to be so old and still so shallow. Sad really. And the way family never calls them anymore because of their endless criticisms of everything everyone does and how the grandkids only care about how much is being left for them when "the old witch" finally croaks. Tsk, tsk, tks. Those are some sad, sad people.

WHOA! Guess they don't make little old ladies like they used to.

Glad you're feeling better Omers that would have freaked me out a little too.

Sorry that happened - it's bad enough when I worry about what people are thinking, when they say nasty things out loud, I'm outta there!

Where did good manners and politeness go?

I have noticed that some older people (mostly ladies sorry to say) are the pickie sort of people.....have no idea were in the world they got it but my grandmother was exactly that way. She would pick at a gnat's eyebrow being out of place.....I would just blow her off & tell her how trivial & insignificant the things she was picking about where & blow her off (got a lot of practice at that). My mother didn't start off that way, but as she got older, saw the same thing in her. promised myself that I WOULD NEVER be like my mother or grandmother & have kept that promise so far. Think we have so much more to focus on in life & find that it's the older people who seem to have nothing left in their life other than the little things that annoy them to complain about.

My older friend who is 92.....is interesting.....I find that she complains about a lot of things also....but she isn't the knit-picking sort of complaining....however I do catch her at times & she doesn't mind my pointing out when it happens....we just end up laughing about it...I always point out to her how many more serious issues she is dealing with than the trivial things that knit-picking is all about.....never seen such a politically active person & social awareness at that age before....Have to say, she is truly inspiring.....glad they aren't all like those women who were picking at your car.

Say, I'll loan you my truck & you can threaten to run them over the next time they comment on your auto....no one argues with a truck. I just got it washed at a car wash (something I have never done before in my life). I won the car wash on a radio program.....wow was that a nice thing....look so sparkily clean....until the next hour when I ran through a mud puddle that I didn't see. Ah well, they say trucks are supposed to look dirty & grungy.....maybe you really do need a truck...but I feel guilty if I don't keep it washed & clean & free from 3 loads of white fluffy dog fir that accumulates every time I go anywhere which is always with 3 of my eskies.
