Is is possible to have so much anxiety that you cant work in the work force?

Yes, it is possible. Ideally, eventually, the person experiencing this has their symptoms lessen and they are able to find a job that is a good fit for them. That balance though doesn't always happen.

Yes. In fact this is what happened to me. It was a process with me however. I slowly got worse and worse until I had make a choice. Either me (an my mental health) or working. Of course I had to choose me. It is an agonizing thing to go through. Please PM if you need too. Huggles, Jen |

I don't work because of panic disorder and OCD. I've tried to apply for jobs at home, but even that way, people aren't interested in you if you have a very thin resume. On top of that, while I've always been open about my conditions, I've decided I prefer not to bring it up anymore. The fact is, many people do make judgements, even if they mean well, and I don't like being perceived this way.

Maven,
it is a bad place to be in. I was off work for 5 months with panic, anxiety, depression etc. I was too ill to work so yes it is possible to be too ill for the workplace. Im wondering if the problem is knowing that you cant just leave, you know, when you are at work and something goes wrong and you get anxious, its worse cos you know you cant just leave and go home. That was how I felt, sort of trapped and not able to manage a full day or even at any given time. Have you considered voluntary work as a way to get yourself back into it? Its just that with voluntary work they may be more open in that you only need come when you are able too? It may help with confidence and may give you a place to "practice" dealing with these things. Just a thought is all. Anyay, please take care and look after yourself. I know where you are at and its a hard place to be. atg
