so i'm going away to be a counselor for 5 weeks (eep) and i'm really excited but worried that i will get really anxious and stressed out being around people i don't know and doing new things. i'm mostly worried about having panic attacks. I'm just looking for advice and reassurance i guess.

I'm sure lots of people with anxiety problems go through this too.

Doing new things is scary to everyone, even people without anxiety... but you can do it! Once you get into it and you've been there a few days, it won't be a scary new place any more. You just have to push past that initial barrier - and remember, there's no such thing as a person who's not at least a BIT nervous about taking on something like this. You're not a weirdo sweety, you're normal. And if you do panic, you can use the same coping techniques to get through it that you use at home.

It's very hard to do new things. The fear of the unknown is something a lot of people deal with. As for the stress and anxiety, sometimes the fear of having stress and anxiety can make the anxiety MUCH worse... so sometimes it is ok just to accept that the anxiety is going to happen instead of trying to prevent it.

When you feel the anxiety coming on just focus on your breathing and try to remember that whatever you are doing, there is a good reason and it is a step in the right direction.
