I am scared to death right now!

I went to the dentist again for continued pain, this time in my right tooth, which had been root canaled in May.

The dentist said, "I see a shadow up there above it. You need to be evaluated for surgery."

the last time I was put under was when I was five.

I am afraid of not waking up or of waking up throwing up, dizzy, or with some g awful thing down my throat.

I thought it was finally over. It's not.

I hope people recover from apicotomiey or apicoectomies quickly.

((((hug)))) Sounds like this is going to take care of the pain you have had for so long! Yay for that!

This is done with a local anesthesia, not a general anesthesia. You won't be intubated so you can rest assured that you won't have a tube in your throat.

Here is a link that I hope helps

I know it must be extremely scary to know you will be going through this procedure, but just remember how you will feel after it is all over and you are healed! You will make it through and it will all be worth it! Just focus on breathing and keep your mind on the outcome!

You have nothing to be worried about. I remember the first time I had surgery ( in a different country I might add) and I was freaking out about it. But when they came into my room with a gown, a bed, and a happy pill I kinda said to myself "it is what it is." I took it like a champ and woke up the next day feeling relieved that I finally had it done. I had a big cyst and some other stuff removed from my sinus in my cheek. It felt like I got punched lightly in the face for about 2 days. It was a great experience actually. I spent a week in the hospital and I met many great people. I was in a ward where we were grouped with 4 people to a room and there were about 7 rooms in my section. So I made plenty of friends. Now when I tell people about my story about the surgery they get a kick out of it because it was something you could only see on TV.

ty everyone for your replies.

Actually I had an extraction; the tooth could not be saved---this make 3 extrac. in 1 year! there was a crack in that tooth. I have the tooth now in my drawer. It was such a problem tooth I wanted to keep it cause it was an interesting problem. The roots are curved bigtime; dentist did not think she could get it out but she did. Did not even have to drill or cut it.

But I feel much better.

I am on pain meds now---they are helping because they removed an infection.

I will remember this for future reference in case I need an apicoectomy in the future.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad it went well and I'm glad that the source of that unrelenting pain is gone!

Take good care of you, you've been through a lot of stress!

Funny how you posted this. I just had dental surgery a few days ago. I had to get eight teeth pulled out. The advice I can give to you is, don't worry. Believe me I was scared to death when I found out that I had to get eight teeth pulled out, all on the same day but the nurses were very kind to me and gave me reassurance that everything would turn out fine. Guess what? It did! lol Once they put that mask on you, you'll be out in seconds. I took a few deep breaths then closed my eyes and by the time I opened them the surgery was over. The only thing I should warn you about is the pain and some blood. (I had A LOT of blood and some minor pain) It might be different for you though. Less pain and less blood. Lucky you lol Depends how many teeth there are to pull out.

But please don't worry about waking up during surgery, doctors doing something wrong, because it's not going happen. (the chances a very small) If it makes you feel better I'll be praying for you and giving you support. I know what it's like to have anxiety and trust me I had a lot. You'll do fine though, so don't worry. ^_^ Good luck on your operation! <3

ty.

I wish I had been able to get to this sooner.

I have been going thru a LOT and it's amazing that I am holding up so.

My socket is healing now. The pain is finally going away. I will have an implant in the fall. I am going to ask the dentist to do it then so I can enjoy the summer painfree for a little while! lol

I had another crown put on an unexpected tooth last week which had a very deep filling. Had the stitches out yesterday and crowns on the root canals on the left AT LAST!!!!

I am grateful for at least a short time of relief today.

I pray there are no other problems. Have to have one more filling next week and the week after, all the permanent crowns. If that filling is not too deep, thank goodness. I am looking at worst at one more root canal. But I am USED to them now. lol
