Sometimes when I have my panic attacks everything seems surreal and I do have a hard time remembering when my anxiety is in high mood like it has been lately.

While having a panic attack rate increases and our brains dont have enough brain juice or something to realize what is going on, its normal to not remember things before, during or after a panic attack.

I had one just the other day while me and my husband were out. The horrible part was we were out with his parents. They were treating us to lunch. Something happened in my head and on the way back i'm sitting in the backseat with his mother and for some reason I start getting nervous.
It was starting to rain and the traffic was kind of hectic. I felt like every time we came to a stop behind someone that my husband was going to run into them. I couldn't rationalize this. He's an excellent driver. But for some reason every time I would get this feeling like when you look over the ledge of a really tall building or cliff. By the time we got to the house i was a wreck and he was a wreck because of me. I felt horrible and apologized. It was so embarrassing. |

I have had this during a very stressful time. The doctors swore up and down that I was on drugs but all I had that day was cigs and Dr P. I could remember a flash of the night here or there but never could get the full memories. One t said it was a severe anxiety attack that caused my memory to go out, another t said it was my DID and an alter coming out and my primary care doc said it was because I hit my head that same night and got an inverted concussion. Who knows why it really happened. I hit my head about an hour into the episode so IDK if that was the cause. Apparently I was crawling throughout the house uncontrollably vomiting and screaming that I was going to die. I than asked someone to call 911. I was taken to the ER with oxygen and an EKG hooked up, I remember only a brief moment here and there from that night. Apparently I drove home...
It could be any number of things, my point is if you aren't seeing a doctor to discuss this with, I highly urge you to talk to one about it. It could be anxiety, it could be a dissociative issue, it could be an amnesia issue, it could be a physical problem in the brain... Memory loss in this sense really isn't something that should be toyed with. You should try to get help from a doc in finding out the core reason behind it. That way you can learn to place the missing pieces back together and learn to perhaps not lose any more time! The best of luck to you, I know this kind of thing is anything but easy! I do have other memory loss issues as well with the DID, years taken from my memory. But the above insident was the only that I could imagine was from anxiety alone... I think that's what it was...
