Okay, so I posted a similar thread in the Bipolar thread, since that is my main problem, but I thought it might be better suited here as well, seeing as how it pertains to anxiety.

I get anxious, really, really anxious and nervous for no apparent reason sometimes. I feel really sick and I tremble due to my nerves. I don't know why, sometimes. However, I do know why I feel like that right now. I dread going into work, since I just don't like spending my time at a job (but I know I have to if I want money). So it's caused because of that.

However, I don't know how to deal with it. I've tried relaxing my muscles by tensing them, doing relaxing things, watching TV, meditating... I mean, I've really tried a lot but nothing seems to work. I'm at my wits end and really need some help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let's see, first of all, if I understand you correctly:

You sometimes get anxious. You don't always know what that's about but in this case it seems to have something to do with your job.

You do and you don't want to be at work. You don't say exactly what you do and don't like about it but one of the things you do like is that you get paid (and you do need the money).

You think you could work (and make money) more comfortably if you could somehow stop feeling anxious so you're trying different things, like relaxing, to feel less anxious. So far it doesn't seem to be helping much.

I think there are other ways of looking at it, though. For instance, could the anxiety be trying to tell you something? This is just me, but... although becoming more comfortable at work makes good practical sense, I get the impression that it may not really be your first choice.

If you were to accept your anxiety, invite it in as it were, ask it what it wants to tell you, and listen -- what do you suppose it might say?

Hmm.... I don't know. I know for a fact work would be involved. I'd love to not be working, but I need the money for college. It might say something about just being worried about everything going on, the little things in life... Difficult to think about, hmm... I think those two topics for sure.

Do you suppose some other kind of work would suit you better? Or a different place to work, or different people to work for/with?

I do think so, something I'd like a little more, but the problem with that is I'm still a teenager. I can't be too picky with where I want to work since I really want to go to college. My boss is very understanding of my 'special' needs, however. Which is really nice.

There is one person I work with that I don't like working with... That could definitely be a source of my anxiety.

I am planning on looking for something else once college comes around, though.

Sounds to me as if you're looking in the right direction. If you ever want to explore further what's going on for you around that person... that's just the kind of thing these forums are for!

For me what I try and do is stay in the moment when I get anxiety is when I think of something in the future I have no control over yet! Then when I get there it is not as bad as what I thought it would be! So I really try to "stay in the moment" and not worry. I hope this makes sense.

It makes a lot of sense, thanks. I'll try to keep that in mind.
