My mom suffers from both the above and it has taken over her life. She eats and goes to bed at exactly the same time every day. She is afraid to eat out, because of germs. She doesn't want anyone in her house for fear of germs.

She will not travel any farther than the grocery store, and blames it on physical ailments. She thinks having flatulence means she is dying of cancer. My father is extremely ill, and she will not visit him because it is out of her circle of comfort and he has VRE colonies and she is afraid she will get it.

She is as healthy as an ox. I have been daily to the hospital to visit my dad and I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and bronchitis and asthma. I wear a mask to protect my dad.

What can be done to help my mom? She has a psychiatrist, who doesn't do anything for her. Please give me some suggestions so I can help her before she drives me more insane. Thanks in advance.

Buy a book on OCD and Anxiety Disorders. Follow the steps they suggest for helping a family member suffering from these disorders. A good self-help book for your mom is "the Feeling Good Handbook" by Dr. David Burns.

Thanks so much for reply. That is a great suggestion. I can deal with my MIL Alzheimer's and my Dad's confusion and dementia, but this OCD and Social Anxiety if beyond me and my sister with the degree in psychology. LOL

You're welcome, I'm just glad I can help. I totally understand how you could be overwhelmed by it. My mom has a tough time dealing with my Anxiety and OCD and it drove her nuts, believe me!

I have the book on order. I think it will be a great source of help. My father is dying, but my mom is very healthy physically, and I will be taking care of her longer than my dad. Thanks again.

For sure, you're very brave by the way.
