just about to turn off my tv to go to sleep , felt down the bed for the remote control and felt a spider!!! aaagggghhhhh it was huge. I panicked, hit it, thought it was dead, tried to pick it up in a tissue, but froze, went and got a lidded cup to put it in, on returning it had gone!!! after dismantling the bedroom for an hour and a half I eventually caught it and after securing the lid I put it on the landing till my PA arrives in the morning. I still am shaking, ok it was not a killer spider but it was a good 5 inches across counting the legs!
I know it is silly of me to fear spiders, but no matter how i try to tell myself they are not harmful, all gods creatures blaa blaa blaa I can not stop the fear reflex whenever i see one in my home! I wish i could just turn over and ignore them, life would be much easier! I am wide awake now, know it will take over an hour to calm down to sleep, and to top it all my PA will be arriving in 6 hours to help bathe me! |

(((yellowted))) - I can understand how upsetting this would be. What an unpleasant surprise thinking it was in the cup only to find it escaped. 5 inches in a very large spider IMO. I scream when they catch me off guard, but I will kill them but it makes me very tense. Having it on your bed is even scarier.
I had one over the frame of my door - even though it was small it jumped as I was aiming for it and that sent me in a panic because it was in the bedroom. Then we have these bulb body looking spiders around the house who build circular webs like outside doorways and windows. I just hate them, especially the fast ones.

I hate spiders as well....There was one on my bathroom floor the other night. I was washing my face and it was no where near me but I had to keep checking where it was so that I knew he wasn't coming after me... I refused to kill it and had my roommate do it.

Oh, also five inches across is monster spider. Something that size would scare anyone, and you encountered it in the worst possible way, considering that your encounter has the same basic structure as most monster movies (which are, of course, intended to scare people) |

Often, during the night, I jump awake cause I think I see one crawling around. I did not use to be so afraid of them until a friend of mine told me about brown widows! eeek! Billi

Hi Ted
![]() ![]() I too am scared of spiders. A couple of weeks ago I killed a black widow on the kitchen floor. Next day I killed a brown recluse there. A few days later I killed a spider that was squashed beyond identification. Now I have to go up in the attic above the kitchen and try to unstop the dryer vent ![]() I've been in the attic many times but this time I think I'll be a little more nervous than usual. Oh and there is a kicker...A few days after the thing with the spiders I found a snake in my closet. It was a harmless species and dead but still unsettling. I'm guessing our drought conditions may have something to do w/ all this. If you feel up to it you may want to get to know the enemy ![]() http://www.uksafari.com/spiders.htm http://www.wildlifeuk.net/spider-ide...ion-t-220.html |

I hate fast ones too, at least slow ones give you a chance to catch them. I am so glad that i live in a country with no harmful ones, i would never get to sleep if there was even a remote possibility of a deadly spider within 100 ft of the bed! |

We have larger spiders in Northern Ontario called wolf spiders but they're not deadly thank goodness but they're almost as big as a Tarantula. I don't think I could stand living in a country that had larger or deadly ones. My SIL was visiting from Australia and the thought crossed my mind...what if one of those Funnel Web spiders is in her suitcase? I also don't know why the black one are so fast. I can stand those very small ones that don't grow big. There are also these very small ones in my area that jump every time I try to step on it - takes me 5 tries to get the darn things. My daughters teacher last year doesn't believe in killing insects so she would trap them in a cup like you and let them go outside...which is nice but I'm worried they'll jump on my arm.
A few months ago(told this story before here) I came in from walking Bella and had just walked under a low lying tree. Standing at the counter and felt something tickle my arm, so I brushed my arm and down came a fairly large spider. I don't usually scream and I let out a scream, stepped on it and screamed again. Oldest daughter found the whole thing so funny she was literally rolling on the floor laughing. Bella was barking like crazy lol.

Ugh,
Flooded, I don't know how Austrailians live with all those poisenous insects and snakes and other creepies either. I hear that you have to be careful of scorpions climbing into your shoes too. And then you have to worry about sharks and poisenous jelly fish and god knows what else you have there. I am a very out doorsy type person I don't know how I would like being around all those things. But I guess you guys are used to that. I was always afraid of spiders too and I have a farm and there are lots of spiders in my barn and some are big. I have come to an agreement with them as they do control the pesty flies. But I do have to take the nozzel vacuum and eventually get rid of all the webs including the spiders. Luckily where I am we don't have a lot of poisenous ones. I don't know how the horsefarms fair in the areas where there are black widows, one reason I don't want to move south. And I know taranchila's are not poisenous but ewwwww they are just too big and hairy for me. We do get a lot of tics around my area and they can give you lyme disease, even the dogs, and horses and other animals can get lyme disease so we do have to be careful and check everyone. I guess no matter where one lives, spiders like to visit and they are creepy and ugly. Open Eyes |
