just wanted to share with you all something that has been a great help to me, as a kind of therapy outside of therapy. every once in a while when i feel like nothing else is working for me, i go indoor rock climbing. if you're not familiar with it, a rock gym is usually a huge room with the walls covered in colorful holds and you try different routes, ranging from easy to hard. my probs (ptsd, panic attacks, ocd) seem to consume me sometimes so that i begin to wonder if theres really anything else to me. i look at myself and think thats all i am, a big problem. lately i'm a bit housebound, but i look forward to getting out and climbing. i like that it requires so much of me, physically and mentally, and that my fear is something i can share with those around me without them shaking their heads in that ????? way that people do. when you go climbing even though its safe (check out the place first to make sure its lisenced!!!!) everyone is scared because being up in the air is scary. so, just a thought. anyone else have a way of dealing with panic/ocd? hope i'm not repeating a previous thread too much, i'm new here.

Rock gyms are fun, aren't they? And they are definitely a good workout.
If you haven't already done so join a stress management class where you can learn various relaxation techniques, or learn to meditate. Incorporating something like that in your daily life may help. With meditation, it is very important not to overdo it (5 to 10 minutes a day). Yoga is another thought, and that would help you in the rock gym too! __________________ If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it - Lucy Larcom |
