So, I tried to stay away from benzodiazepines for the past year - the thought of being on meds indefinitely is a turn-off to me. I realized a couple weeks ago that I really need to be back on an anxiety med: I've been grinding my teeth, clenching my jaw, chewing the inside of my mouth, having panic attacks randomly, and cannot sleep at night. I was so nervous going to the doc about it. I hate asking for anxiety meds, but the doc was very understanding and empathetic to my situation and seemed perfectly fine with giving me the rx I needed. I am so thankful! I will finally be able to sleep through the night, and the teeth gnashing has already stopped! So glad there are still decent docs out there.

I'm scared of doctors too, and there is really no reason to be.

Doctors are human. I even had one tell me he wouldn't charge me for a session when I was really down! That was amazing to me.

When I was 13, I was seeing a psychiatrist because I had severe depression with suicidal tendencies and a horrible anger problem. This doctor told me, "I think you just need the $hit beat out of you." I swear those were his EXACT words. That totally ruined my perception of doctors and this, in turn, made me even more depressed and suicidal. I am MUCH better now, however, after many years.

Makes one wish one could go back in time but be the age/size/person we are now and beat the $hit out of some of those people. . .or at least have an elegant response for them, putting them in their place. Your parent wasn't there with you? Mine would have ripped such a doctor a new hole.

We were alone in this session, but I did leave and call my mom who gave him some lip and I never saw him again, nor did we pay for that session. I would love to go back in time and show him the anger I had, but he has a bad reputation around this area now, so seems karma served him.
