I think it has to get worse before we finally say enough is enough and it's time to deal with it! That's where I am right now!

I hear you! I know exactly where you are coming from! I have days where I feel good about my progress and then the next day I fail to move forward and I just get so mad that I feel like screaming! Hang in there! You will find a way to get past this. This is a great support site, and there are a lot of really good people here who are compassionate about what you are going through!

No you dont have to hit rock bottom so to speak. Just monitor it like you would if you were taking some medication on a daily basis. When it starts changing or getting worse contact therapist and use coping skils like relaxation techniques the lessen it.

I think of my anxiety as it can only get as bad as I let it. If I keep track of it and use my many coping skills learned in depression/anxiety management groups and therapy it is more like a small sliver. It doesnt have to be there if I dont want it to stay there.

Well, I've always been told it has to get worse before it can get better. That's been my experience, too.

I have never been told it has to get worse first. Ive always been asked what I was doing so that it wasn't getting worse. And that I can take care of it at any point not when its at its worst because at its worst is usually when people end up dead because they are too far gone to see the problems. Ive also been told anxiety isn't like an adiction - its not something people take on, want or need so unlike adictions you don't have to get worse to get better all it takes is monitoring your feelings and taking care of yourself when the symptoms start increasing, sometimes anxiety comes with other mental disorders that are chemical imbalance problems so medication also helps. A person most times recognizes right away when they cant sit still or are constantly worrying and what do they do? They get up and do something different or they try to find a solution to the problem they are worrying about, or they talk to their doctor for possible meds - thats not waiting for it to get worse - thats taking care of the situation and they aren't at rock bottom when t hey do these things.

Thats one of the reasons I took depression / anxiety management classes so that I could recognize more of my symptoms and learn better ways to take care of it then cutting and so on.

It might have to get worse before it gets better.... for you have to literally put your self in the middle of the situation causing the attack at times to enable your self to over come it and to wash away all the wrong assumptions that go along with its feeling.
