I've been suffering with depression and anxiety for the last 4 months. I started Effexor about 3 weeks ago but a very low dose. My symptoms started out with tingling mostly on my left side (arm, lower leg, face and hand). It totally freaked me out and I was sure I had MS.
My doc has said that she believe the symptoms are from anxiety and did some screening type tests on me. I've been feeling a LITTLE better in terms of the depresssion and anxiety over the last week but my symptoms are still coming back periodically. In the last two days, they haven't left! What is wrong with me? Why, if I'm feeling better, haven't the symptoms gone away? Of course, I'm freaking out again and am imagining sometime horribly wrong with me. |

Psych meds take a minimum of 4 weeks to build up to a decent level in your bloodstream. Take a couple of deep breaths and try not to let your imagination run away with you.

No, I don't have the burning in my head - sometimes I have burning in my limbs. I've also started getting twitches all over my body but mostly in my legs and arms. Today, I woke up feeling very panicked and scared. Hardly slept at all....
Hope you feel better, Steph... |

Candy is correct, meds like Effexor take weeks to build up in your system. Try to be patient with that but I know it is hard.
Also, even with meds, they are not a cure all, but they are very effective. In addition to the meds, therapy is good for learning to face your anxiety head on and learn to deal with your anxiety and become less afraid of it. It takes a long while to even recognoze your triggers of anxiety but keeping a journal of when your anxiety is worse and how you reacted to it does help to pin point when you get most anxious. Hang in there. |

Your symptoms are progressing the way mine have. Started with the tingling, now I have the muscle twitching. I think, though I'm not a doctor, that my twitching is do to my muscles having been tight and contracted for, basically 3 months strait. Now that they are loosing up, they started twitching. It's a build up of some chemical, if I recall correctly. However, the zoloft seems to be working well, as it's keeping me from freaking out over all the twitching. The meds can take up to 6 weeks to work, so give it time. Maybe your doc can give you some xanax until the meds kick in. Exercise has also helped me quite a bit.
