Hi all. I am anxious and need some direction on what to do. My husband has a medical condition and is no longer taking care of himself. He lives in the bedroom most of the time and all he does is sleep, watch tv, and goes outside with his walker to beg for money for beer. He has not bathed or shaved in weeks. He is not taking his medications and will not keep his Drs. appointments. I dont know what to do,

Hello anxious1234!! You have alot on your plate. If you don't mind, a couple of questions. Don't know your age or if age makes a difference in his case? He see's some kind of Dr. for his diagnosis(s) which are?
With what you have described, have you considered contacting "adult protective services" thru DHS or the Health Dept. Also forgot to look on your profile if you are in US of another country.
Something else you should consider is getting some counselling for yourself. He is not the only one with issues. You have to live with him, have no control of the situatuion & have to witness his behaviors. None of this is your fault, so talking to someone IRL (professional) might really help navigate what is best for you both. Seems there are some tough decisions to make as this should not continue.
Thank you for being brave in sharing your story.
((gentle hugs)) Keep posting & let us know how things are going.

That was a good post that kindachaotic wrote. You need help in the home. I would call too a social service agency and explain what is going on...if he is over 65 or in the 60's whatever, you call call the aging council or what ever name it goes by in your area. He must have a Dr. that treats him Call the Dr now and explain the situation and leave nothing out. Explain you cannot go on this way another day!!! I know calling these people and agencies is VERY difficult but you both need help as soon as possible. Please let us know what is going on too and keep us informed. We care!!!!!!!

When I was first diagnosed with schizophrenia I went into a deep depression. All I did was play video games, watch tv, and sleep. I had severe anxiety when family or friends came to visit.I wanted to commit suicide, but I am too chicken.
I pulled out of the depression, and went to get help.Nobody knew what to do for me.
I went to the hospital and was admitted under the Baker Act in Florida.

There may be something similar in your state. You can have him committed. He may not like it very much, but it is necessary. Then you can focus on getting better yourself.

Thank you all for your replies and advice .To give a few details, Den was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and given 6 months to live. That was 10 years and 5 operations. His primary doctor is not someone I like, especially when Den came out of Rehab before the tumor, the Dr? rejected my pleas and prescribe him sleeping pills and pills to calm down, which he then started drinking them with beer. Den will not go to the Dr's and for over a month now he is not taking his antiseizure pills nor any of his other medications, right now he hardly eats, doesnt bathe, puys on the same dirty clothes everyday and goes outside with his rollator walker to beg for money for beer. I am 58 years old and I cannot livethis way no more. I NEED TO GET HIM OUT OF MY HOUSE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. mY PATIENCE IS ON ITS LAST THIN THREAD.PLEASE HELP ME WHAT TO DO. Den does nothing all day but sleep, eat, drink and make a mess in the house after i'v cleaned it up. I can'i live this way anymore.
