At school today, I had a panic attack-- a new experience for me, even if I have been very nervous and anxious for no real reason the past month. And the cause of it? I was afraid of not doing well in band class. I had to go home because of it, and my parents scheduled me to go a psychiatrist. I'm scheduled to go May 16. I cannot deal with this much anxiety that long. I cannot do it.

My mother also made it quite clear that she thought I was insane.

I am so sorry that happened ... it is so truly scary.
You are not alone.
Is it possible to call your P/T and explain that you would like to get in prior to the middle of May? Do they understand why you have made an appt?
(Sometimes, they will get you in earlier if you explain it's urgent). If they aren't able to see you, perhaps you can get a referral for another PDoc.
There is no need for you to suffer alone I wish you all the best and do hope you will come back.

Thank you.

I am a new patient, so they scheduled me in a little late. I live in a college town, so the psychiatrists are all very busy D:

Panic attacks are horrible!! You have all of my sympathy...really!

In my experience with panic attacks, it's best to work out physical illness to be the cause before moving onto emotional illness. Once a possible physical cause for the symptoms have been ruled out, then you can move onto emotional challenges.

Best wishes!

I'm so sorry! I just had a major panic attack myself and it set off a lot of anxiety in me. I'm very sorry you have to wait so long for an appointment I wish the medical system worked differently...

Hello

Can you describe how/what you felt during your 1st panick attack? I had my 1st one yesterday, and I hope I will never, ever have to experience something like that again :'( it is devastating. I thought - I actually believed - I was dying of a heart attack. My chest was burning and felt tight, I couldn't stop shaking, and I could barely see (tunnel vision). It was horrible I feel sorry that you too had a first panick attack. I just wanted to know if you felt the same way...

Get better soon

I see your appointment was a few days ago, how did it go? Panic attacks can be horrifying but they do not make you crazy at all. The can also seem so real because your body can act out these parts that you are afraid of and you can genuinely feel ill, which only adds to the anxiety. I hope your appointment went well. Anxiety is a nasty thing and I really hope you can find some sort of comfort.

Panic attacks is the sign of anxiety disorder. The peak age at which people have their first panic attack is 15-19 years. Another fact about panic is that this symptom is strikingly different from other types of anxiety; panic attacks are so very sudden and often unexpected, appear to be unprovoked, and are often disabling.
