My 19 y/o daughter has panic disorder, depression & anxiety, and adhd and a couple of weeks ago she finally saw a psychiatrist that is helping her with meds. She even saw a therapist a few weeks ago that she liked. This is after 3 years of not finding any professional help that helped her. Her affect is better, in that she's not as depressed.

Last week she got into the car to see the therapist (which is only minutes away) but when we got there she had a panic attack and couldn't go in. So, even though she is happy with the therapist, and the psychiatrist, the appointment for the psych. is tomorrow she now won't get into the car at all for fear of another panic attack.

What do we do now? She says "why can't they come here". I don't know of any mental health professionals that make house calls.

I'm sorry your daughter is going through this. Panic attacks are very scary and the fear of having another one can also cause one. The fear of fear.
I've suffered and still suffer from panic attacks. I've tried to use logic but you just can't do that while having one.
One of my mind tricks that does work is finding an alternate way of doing/going somewhere. It's not the healthiest approach but does work at times.
If she won't get into the car (for fear) you can always try an alternate way of getting there if possible, walking, ect., at least for now.
Also if she is on a benzo you can have her take one 30 min before getting into the car to help stabalize her. You can remind her she is safe, you are there for her and nothing is going to happen. Reassure her she will be safe..have her talk her way through it while in the car..try to be patient and kind. They are scary when they happen., remember it is VERY real to her even if you can't make sence of it.
If you can get her through the ride to see the doctor please make sure the dr. is aware of whats going on.
I'm sorry she is going though this and you are strugggling to help her.

I second cotton ball's remark...I am so sorry your daughter is suffering with Panic and Anxiety. It's a very scary thing. And it does lead to the dreaded Agoraphobia (fear of fear)

You are such a great mom to offer support. This must be painful for you to see your daughter suffering

I would definitely contact her Pdoc and T and inform them of what your daughter is experiencing. They will be able to offer assistance and guidance. Also, it's really important that everyone is on the same page, so your daughter gets the best of care.

Please let us know how you both are doing.
