Make them melt like butter. I know this is difficult when you are in full panic mode, but it really does work. For me anyways. It's hard when people are making fun of you, but attitudes change quickly when they are confronted with kindness. The inflection in your tone of voice, makes it impossible to be mean.
Don't do it too much though. People might think you are being fake.

Sometimes when I am in panic mode, I can't speak to anyone at all. It is so frustrating. If the person you are dealing with has anger issues, then I doubt
you will be able to bring down the wall. But it is worth it to try. You might just be what they need to get over the anger.

Thanks for this!

That is natural when you use kind words, it will soften them and they feel good about it and and tend to down their aggressive mood.
