Whenever I feel bored or concerned/nervous about something, I peel the skin off my lips. I usually don't stop until they are red and painful or oozing blood. I convinced myself to keep doing in until they become "smooth," which hardly ever works.

Is this a symptom of anxiety or something else?

Thanks.

Since I was a kid, I always tried to clean under my finger nails. I hate to see dirt under them, but I do this ALL the time and my pinky and ring fingers get the worst of it.

So... yes I think these nervous habits are a symptom of anxiety

Lol Wolfgang I do the exact same thing with my lips. They just MUST be smooth! It never even occurred to me this habit could be tied to anxiety. Admiting it now though, all the picking, peeling & chewing is probably the main reason they're rough & chapped in the first place!
