Last night my son and daughter and I went to see Iron Man 3. There were a few parts where it showed him having anxiety attacks. My daughter has anxiety and she told me after the movie, "That's exactly how I feel when I'm having an axiety attack!" And I told her, "That's how I feel when we go to Winco and Walmart." Then she said, "Oh, Mom! You're just making that up! Everyone knows you just don't like being with anyone!" I'm pretty sure she was just kidding, but a part of me didn't know how to take that.

Did she mean that you don't like getting out with people in general?

Well, yeah I think so--the reason is that I have social phobia, and I actually have anxiety attacks when at winco and walmart.

I was really, really glad to see the anxiety attacks in Iron Man 3. I've been working on accepting the fact that I have some sort of anxiety disorder, and seeing one of my heroes (sure, fictional, but whatevs) having anxiety is one of many things helping me be able to accept it more.

And social anxiety sucks. I've started having what I think are anxiety attacks when I'm at church, which sucks because going to church is a good thing for me, but the anxiety makes it so hard for me to get anything good out of it. >.<

So yeah. People can be stressful. XP

shortandcute, sometimes people say things like that which are thoughtless and hurtful but I'm sure if you confronted your daughter about it she would apologise and tell you that she regretted what she said as soon as it came out of her mouth.

As to Iron Man 3, I didn't see what the point to the anxiety attacks was in the movie . . . they weren't there to further the plot, or as a set up for something meaningful later on, . . . they were just THERE.

I found the image of it incredibly triggering. I'm glad it brings more attention to this and makes some people realize that this can affect anyone, but seeing him have the attacks just immediately brought back those feelings for me. I almost started to cry cause everything just came rushing back.

Sorry if this is threadjacking, I just didn't want to start a new thread relating to Iron Man 3.

I felt the same way. His panic triggered mine. I guess that means he is a really good actor.
