Hello all. I wanted to ask you all if anxiety can make you think different things or differently about the past. Like how you view past events.. For instance, if something happened in the past, and it was a bad memory for you but you didnt do any thing wrong, can your mind flip it to make you feel that you did something wrong?

I don't know if this is a "right" or a "wrong" answer, but in my particular case for an incident that happened, I know that the more I thought about it, I kept playing things over in my mind. The more I did that, I kept thinking of things I might have done to prevent it. I just tend to blame myself for things anyway, so I eventually started to blame myself, and who knows, maybe it really was my fault? Deep deep down, I don't think it ultimately was my fault, but it is hard to find that place.

I hope this helps, and welcome to PC. Good question!

I don't know if it is anxiety but I do that A LOT, lately it's everyday. My thoughts are constantly jumbled and don't know what to make of past events anymore and I try to tell myself it is what it is and just not think about it but.....you know how it is.
Try not to beat yourself up....hugs

I get what your saying. I think yes, anxiety can taint the way you see things.

Anxiety is confusion 100 times multiplied.
So your mind will try many ways/views to figure things out.
It is looking a place to place blame.
Try to move beyond blame and move toward accepting what has happened in the past and nurture yourself with lessons learned.

thank you all.Yea its weird. Like depression puts that cloud over your mind and then when you think about things, they are twisted. And thats where the fear and anxiety comes from

Sure, all the time!! One that comes to mind is once in physics class in high school there was this girl I sat next to who was super smart and kinda strange and I kind of secretly really liked her and the whole class was doing some demonstration that involved a slowly lowering high pitched tone from above audible range. At some point it dropped low enough she said "ouch!" before anyone else indicated they could hear it. I said "ouch!" too reactively even though I'm pretty sure I hadn't heard anything yet. I'm like

hello all .. a question everyone can answer.. please give examples if possible

So freaking embarrassing. In my head. Pretty benign though really.

i dont think its anxiety particularly.things always appear different on the outside looking in- to being all caught up in the moment ,reflections distort, realisation and distance contribute.

anxiety can contribute to action/inactions during "the moment".i always think if youre on the outside looking in things are clearer-reflection can be distorted, fuzzy if your shadow interfers or misleading because other perspectives/influences may highlight parts you miss at the time.

Yes, totally. I'm glad you asked this too, because I've been wondering about this myself. In my experience, anxiety leads to forgetfulness, messing up days, losing track of time, misremembering things, NOT remembering things and so on. Sometimes the day blurs into itself, so no memory has its own space, and everything is all confused. On other days, when I am able to concentrate, the concentration becomes ... brightly focused. So I do one thing for a long time and forget everything else. Quite worrying and occasionally embarrassing... >_<
