For the past few months i've been getting a strong pain in my chest area. I have always felt rather tense at work but now it has gotten worse. I seem to constantly feel worried and paranoid. I never used to have this issue but now it's getting to the point that is rather unbearable. I think it might be due to all of the anxiety and stress at work but not totally sure.
I will probably go to the doctor and ask for help but I tend to hate taking medication. I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help me but would love some feedback. |

yes, anxiety can make ur chest tighten up and make u focus more on ur breathing which can become erratic, leading to hyperventilation and fainting sometimes.
good news tho! you cannot die from a panic attack ![]()

Yes anxiety can cause chest pain from not breathing correctly. To be on the safe side though, go for a complete checkup to rule out heart problems. Acid reflux can also cause terrible chest pain. Learn how to do this simple breathing exercise - its called 7/7/7 .....exhale all the way, breath in to a count of 7, hold for 7 and exhale for 7 seconds. The majority of people don't breath properly, especially those who have anxiety. There are times when I have to remind myself to breath if I'm upset. Most of us do shallow breathing which only uses the upper chamber of the lungs.

Absolutely anxiety can cause chest pain. It is one of the symptoms of severe anxiety and/or panic at least that's what the doc said when I could afford to go to him. Tell your doctor about it so that he can rule out heart problems like Lynn said and spasms in the intercostal tissues (my son has those). Good Luck!

I always have chest pains when I have an anxiety attack. When I first started having these attacks, I thought I was having a heart attack. I was really young, but they tested my heart. It was fine. They have me on klonopin for the anxiety now. When I have chest pains, I will take one. I have had to take up to 4.

Stress and anxiety can cause chest pain because they both put pressure on your central nervous system which as a result puts pressure on your cardiovascular system. The stress level can elevate your blood pressure and as a result the heart rate speeds up which may cause you to experience chest pain.
If you feel as though you are receiving these symptoms then you should try by whatever means possible in order to reduce anxiety and stress levels. Prescribed medication can help but it won't guarantee you anything and can have side effects. Not to mention the ongoing costs associated. There are a number of alternative treatment programs that have proven to work very well for a few people I know personally. Can't remember on the top of my head but if you pm or email me I should be able to find out for anyone that's interested. |
