I had insomnia last night, despite taking an ambien. So I woke up with only 7 hours of sleep. I typically need only 8. Though yesterday I only had 5 hours and I didn't have a panic attack. I had one today. It was mild. It lasted for about an hour and a half after I woke up. I didn't drink coffee right away because I knew it would exacerbate the attack. I took klonopin and then tried to lay down and do some deep breathing exercises. When I tried to do that I started having rapid eye movement and my mind was racing with incoherent thoughts of dread and doom. My mother, who is a registered nurse, thinks the ambien is giving me bad side effects because of the rapid eye movement. So tonight I'm not going to take any. The panic attack was triggered by being rushed to go to work. Thankfully I didn't have to be at work early today. Anyone else get rapid eye movement when they have a panic attack with racing thoughts of doom and dread?

I have never had that particular experience while in the midst of a panic / anxiety attack.

I am not in the medical profession so my input is just based on what I have experienced and/or heard.

It has been reported (even as of late), more studies have been conducted and Ambien has some curious side effects for sure. Also it may be more potent than originally thought.

People that are more sensitive, that do not get the proper amount of rest when taking the Rx to have reported really odd experiences. Esp if they dont get the full 8 or 9 hours.

I would definitely speak with your prescribing md and discuss what you have written here. Perhaps it was a drug interaction with the sedative (???? Just a thought) or maybe this particular rx is not for you.

Good luck and Best wishes. I hope you can get some r&r very soon! Good, proper sleep is so incredibly important

Thank you for your input, Rose. I'm definitely not taking the ambien until I see my Pdoc. I see her Tuesday. I will tell her what I've been experienced. This has happened to me twice in two weeks, both times I took the ambien. I think there may be a correlation. Thank you again for your well wishes. Have a great weekend

Symptoms suck and it seems Mr. Old panic attack always has a new trick up his sleeve to create a unique symptom. That may me maximize our panic attack and assure ourselves of certain death.

My worst are pressure in my head and I go blind. Yup, completely blind. Can't see a thing. I'm at the point where I laugh at it and say 'are you serious?' The tricks of the enemy are sometime extreme enough. But if you can call them on their BS you can rise above.
