I recently received a summons in the mail for jury duty. I am scared to death. A lot of it is because, since we are such a small town, and the court room is in the next town over--and I don't drive (due to anxiety) and there is no city bus in my town so I can't guarantee that I can be there the days and hours they need. I told them about that, but they don't think that's a good enough reason.

I'm sending them some copies of my mental health records, but I don't know.......I'm really scared. What if I can't get excused--and I can't get there on a regular basis? Then I will get arrested. sheesh

If they are not going to pay for transportation, then they should pay another juror who is close to you to drive you in for jury duty. Usually, in some areas, the legal system used to pay a per diem(for meals usually), I suppose, they don' t have that for transportation, in this case as they did not tell you.

When they send out notices for jury selection, they sometimes get more people than they need. Hopefully, that will happen for you. Or the case that to go to court will be settled out of court. Unfortunately, all the candidates for jury duty may have to be told this when they show up to be selected or not.

You can be excused from Jury Duty if you've been diagnosed with a Mental Illness. Are you seeing a Pdoc? If you are, then he would be able to write a letter for you so that you wouldn't have to go through this extra anxiety.

I hope you'll be ok.
