I am new to the forum and don't really know where to start. I am having what seems like mood swings/panic attacks combined with a general inability to complete tasks. I am either so worked up that I feel like I am about to jump out of my skin or I am disinterested and flat. I have become very paranoid, thinking everyone is talking about me. I have started having obsessive, awful thoughts like my husband and both kids dying in a car accident. These usually come about when I am by myself and have time to think/let my mind wander.
I am not seeing a therapist as of yet but know I should. My general practitioner prescribed 150 mg of Wellbutrin but after reading up on it, I am not sure that drug is the right fit for me. I am taking it as prescribed and have been for a little over a week, though. I know these meds take time to infiltrate your system. Does anyone have experience with Wellbutrin and anxiety? Wellbutrin is a good anti-depressant, from what I understand, but it will take a few weeks to start helping. if you can, seeing a psychiatrist might for getting specialized treatment.

Thanks. Yes, that is what my doc said. I just think my issues are more anxiety related verses depression related. I am trying to find a good psychiatrist. Takes time to find a good doc, though.

I would say that Wellbutrin might now be great for anxiety but it can even if it's not often. Also, it's going to take time to figure out what medication will work for you and what is really the original source of your distress. To me it's still a toss up of a chicken and egg scenario -- does the depression fuel the anxiety or vice versa?
I would say to stick with the wellbutrin for now because time and trial is all you really have to figure out what works for you.

Welcome Tweetcher. I hope you find support and safe haven here.
I myself am on Wellbutrin, because I deal with (among other things) panic disorder with agoraphobia, and ocd. I can't take SSRI's because they make me hallucinate, feel high, feel dizzy, and any other number of things that aren't conducive to sanity. But I have found with Wellbutrin that it does address the depression as well as aspects of the anxiety. I still have to manage the symptoms as they come but I am finding them a lot more manageable. Maybe when your mind wanders to those thoughts that bother you you can find a way to distract yourself? Like coming on here? ![]() |

Thanks everyone. I have an appointment tomorrow with a psychiatrist. I'm still on the Wellbutrin, but I've been having some weird symptoms the last few days like sudden bouts of uncontrollable rage. I went "psycho" on my husband for nothing and couldn't stop the words and screaming from coming out. He and I were both freaked out by it. Inside, I knew I was out of control but I couldn't harness the strength to suppress the rage. I've never experienced anything like it. Anyone else felt this on Wellbutrin?

After you got over being freaked out, did you feel any sense of relief? I'm wondering because I've found that sometimes anger is a way to release some of the frustration of dealing with this stuff. Obviously you'd rather not take it out on your family, but if the end result was some bit of relief, that might tell you something. Doing something very physical, if you can, might help in a similar way to release some pressure & tension. Head meds take a lot of patience right when we're usually least able to be patient!
BUT, Wellbutrin does have anger (severe agitation) as a common side effect. So this is something to ask your doctor about if it continues. Usually side effects fade as the meds begin to do what they're supposed to do, but sometimes the effects can be strong enough to warrant changing to a different med. |
