Hi, I've suffered from health anxiety for about 2 years now. I am very concerned about one of my symptoms though. I had a sunburn burning sensation on my lips and nose and up both sides of my nose. This lasted for a few days, and I get burning patches all the time now whenever I'm anxious and think about it. Can this be caused by anxiety? I do remember at the time I was worried about getting a cold sore, as I had read that it can be spread to other parts of the body. I have seen a neurologists and he believes just anxiety, also my brain mri was clear. Also, would something like ms only affect one side of the lips and nose as opposed to both? I have read that the nerves control the feelings in either side of the face, so wondered if it would only affect half the lips and nose. Thanks
Hugs from:

Hi, it's nice to meet you. If you've been examined by a neurologist for MS and all tests came back negative I think you should go forward with this as a mental/emotional issue.
What made you think that you might have MS or maybe a better question would be how are you familiar with MS?

After googling my symptoms, it mostly came back with stuff about multiple sclerosis or other neurological diseases...the symptoms just feel so real, so it baffles me how anxiety can cause it...

Hi. My mother had MS and she never had a burning sensation but she had numbness on her lips she always described it like her face was falling asleep like your foot would. I have severe anxiety & panic attacks and I get the burning lips and nose, well when my anxiety gets really bad my cheeks burn too. Its almost the same sensation your hands get if you hold ice then stick them under warm water. That weird burning. If your brain Mri turned out fine, then I doubt it is MS. Cause MS leaves lesions on the brain. Thats how they DXed my mom. I hope you get better soon. Health anxiety is a pain in the a...

How long has yours lasted before? I worry because when I first had it, mine burned for a few days. Wasn't there when I first woke up, started like 5 minutes into the day

I have been tested for MS too...an MRI is usually a place to start and you came back clear. Your symptoms don't sound MS-related to me. Sometimes the body does strange things to you when you are stressed out and anxious...I know I have had some weird things happen. Hang in there, and get a second opinion if it will help. Hugs to you.
